How Long Does Caching Take After URL Changes

Few months ago I decided to try my hand at an e-commerce shop. Thing is, it turned out that there was a better deal with a better company for less money so we went with them.

I wanted to keep the same domain so that's now pointing at the new e-commerce site but the old site had 837 pages indexed. Those products are now obsolete after finding a better supplier so my questions are:

    1. Do I have to do anything to the site or will Google pick up that the pages are no longer there?
    2. Will that not bring up lots of 404 errors?
    3. How can I go about wiping the old pages off Google?
    4. Will the links still carry through? There weren't many to the internal pages that were indexed.

    Thanks in advance.

I rebranded a site but made no other changes. I did not pay close attention, but within a month the rebranding was showing up in the serps.

    Thanks Sherly.

My worry is I have around 800 pages that are indexed but show 404 errors now. I'm getting a lot of traffic from the previous keywords I was aiming for and now it's causing my bounce rate to be 100%. We are going to add another category to try and redirect the traffic to what was there previously (women's shoes).

Any idea when the indexed pages that aren't there now take to fall off the SERPs? Do I need to do anything to force it? At the moment there are 1400 pages indexed now and 800 are from the old site.

    Hi,

    1. Do I have to do anything to the site or will Google pick up that the pages are no longer there?
Would take a while for google to pick up, some even months to realize those pages aren't there.

    2. Will that not bring up lots of 404 errors?
404 errors are inevitable, submit a new sitemap.

    3. How can I go about wiping the old pages off Google?
You can wipe them off in Google by filing a removal request in google webmaster tools

    4. Will the links still carry through? There weren't many to the internal pages that were indexed.
Perhaps do a 301 redirect from old pages into new pages, otherwise you'd be wasting a lot link juice.

    Hope that answers your questions.
