Wordpress is easy, uses lots of plugins, themes and there are thousands of websites and books explaining everything about wordpress. With wordpress it takes less than 1 hour to make a professional website excluding the content. with html, you start from scratch all the time. And it is a tedious and painful to maintain and update a plain html website.
