    Bold keyword in article

While visiting some websites / blogs, I came across keywords that are bold in the article. I wanted to know the necessity of bolding keywords within an article.

What is really the purpose of doing this?

PS: While posting articles to article directories should I bold the keywords.

In my personal opinion, no. I don't like using bolding to pick out keywords. Most times it looks really strange when you're reading it. I normally only use bolding when I make a statement or emphasis to a word or sentence. Its also a telltale sign that you're trying to get keywords ranked higher. Besides, with the text used in a post, you could rank for other words in the post without really optimizing for them.

    all IMHO of course

One or Two times is fine ... but if use excessive bold phrases in the article, its not pleasing to eyes as well as the article directories don't accept it

Yes, do not bold keywords in Article. I find it looks weird. BUT, I do suggest that you BOLD subheading to help organize your articles and make your articles easier to read.

What I also do, is break my post down into different sections, and then use headings. I then bold the headings, and leave it at that, unless I'm emphasizing something (like I mentioned). That way, readers can find what they're looking for without having to read an entire article to get to the information they searched for. People read articles and blog posts in different ways. You have those that like to spend time reading everything, and you have some that look for something specific. So having an intro note, and then breaking the post up under different headers and even using bulleting in some areas and then finishing off with an ending note or a "take away", is a good way to give every type of reader what they want.
