Lol its easy.... just read the rules and respect them.. thats it
I could write you a book about that. And I think this q has been asked before, in a different context.
Forums are really effective yes, they not only help you with links (signature or otherwise), but they also help you build web rep. In other words, they help you showcase yourself and your business so that everyone can see you and know more about you.
Forums ban people for various reasons. Some serious ones like having multiple accounts, spamming, copy/pasting other people's content from sites and claiming it as their own. But they also ban for smaller reasons, which may not sound like much, but if a member continuously does this, then the infractions add up and it becomes a ban in the end. This could be anything from being disrespectful to other members, (In any way, shape or form), abusing forum rules (which is basically a primary reason for bans as well).
Forum admin, mods, members all want more or less the same thing. A quality forum where people can get together and talk about stuff, whether its business, fun, you name it. What they don't want, however, is someone that is clearly there to use the forum just to get a link to their site, or try use their profile as their own personal marketing platform. The best way to avoid getting into trouble? Read the forum rules. First and foremost. One should do this as soon as they join a new forum, or before, if the forum allows them to see their rules. Use these rules as a guideline and you can't go wrong. Other than that, contribute to the quality of the forum. Don't just post a one liner, or "thanks for that". it adds no value to the forum and it shows members and visitors alike that you aren't there for the right reasons other to gain a link back to your site.
One thing to remember though, every member, or visitor, and I mean mod, mentor, member, admin, visitor can see what you do online, and how you conduct yourself and how you market your product or service. They see how you deal with others and this helps them make decisions about whether or not they want to do business with you. Everyone on a forum is a potential client and should be treated as such. Handled the right way, you could end up being a valued forum member, with an invaluable web reputation that people would want to do business with, and someone that forum admins would want on their forums. Handled the wrong way, and you may not las long at all, obviously

To avoid banning in the forum, just follow the rules of the forum sites and try to use as much actual information as possible for your reply. Don’t post on off topics, just post on your niche category thread only. Don’t post too much links in your post.

simply by not posting spams
Read forum rule, then reading around member post. Avoid to start a new thread especially for new members. Begin reply with off topic, then slowly move to more serious and technical topic.
Avoid getting banned by not posting useless and spam posts.
you have to Always read the terms of service before you sign up. So you understand the rules. Also it helps to browse website of the forum first, before you sign up. That way it gives you an idea of the forum. And will help you decide if or not that forum is right for you.
Just read the rules. If they say you can't post links then don't post links etc.
Just read the FAQ. You will find all the reasons required to be banned. Try to avoid them.
Never SPAM on forums.. There is a signature box, in every forum, where you can promote your website. But apart from that, you must always post useful, relevant and informative content on forums.
I look at it this way... Don't join a forum with the mindset of advertising/promoting a product or service. Instead, use it as you would use a forum you are an active member of.
Treat all the members with respect, post useful and interesting threads and posts, follow the rules, add something to the forum... Once you become an established member then consider promoting a website.
I agree with turncoat. There are other ways of promoting a service or websites. We should not use it for Spamming....
There is so much help you can get from forums, answer to questions about internet marketing, working out which suits you. Reading what other people say about different subjects also. Like turncoat says treat everybody with respect follow the rules.
Keep it on topic and avoid spam.
You can go forum rules and follow them. You will never be banned.
