Thumbs up 5 SEO Mistakes you Can Avoid

    1. Duplicate Titles

As the search engines rely on your tag to tell them what the page on your website is about, it’s imperative that each page on your website has a unique tag.

You can check this manually by browsing your website, or you can simply go to Google and do a search for site:yourdomain.com. If you see duplicate titles then it’s time to collate a list of pages on your website that need their titles changed.
    2. Content Duplication

Following on from the duplicate title check it’s also imperative that you have unique content. Until recently this was unavoidable for pages that carried “print-friendly” versions but with the implementation of the rel=”canonical tag you are able to specify the URL that you would like the search engines to credit as the unique content.

By using the site:yourdomain.com operator again you can spot duplicate content. However, you may find that browsing your website manually will give you a better insight.
    3. Blocking Your Website

This is a “doh!” tip, but you would be surprised how many times this comes up. Have you had your website developed recently or has it just been launched?

Check in your source code if your developers have left in there, and more importantly, have they left content=”noindex, nofollow” in there. If so, get this changed to “index, follow” and open the door to the search engines
    4. Non-Crawlable Navigation

Search engines rely on their spiders being able to crawl your website through navigation menus and internal linking. Is your navigation stopping them?

Many websites still utilise JavaScript navigation menus that are, quite simply, stopping the search engines crawling your website. You can check this by going to Google and using the cache:yourdomain.com and clicking Text Only Version. If you can’t see your navigation menu then you have an actionable point to work with.

Also increase your internal linking within your current website copy. The more pages that the search engines can find the more pages that your potential customers can find.
    5. XML Sitemaps

Why not help search engines know what pages your website has by giving a list of them all.

Using a free service such as xml-sitemaps.com you can create your own sitemap.xml to avoid you manually creating one. Simply upload this to your webserver and let Google, Bing and Yahoo know in their respective Webmaster Tools where your XML sitemap is.

Whilst these tips are basic in many SEO’s eyes, they are always a fantastic starting point when trying to solve the mystery of why your website might not be performing as best as you think it can be.

Don't forget about your page-load speed as well. This is now looked at by the search engines for your SEO ranks.

It really depends on how you use article spinners and what capabilities they have.

Definitely stay away from letting them automatically replace words with synonyms.

The best use I have found with article spinners is to manually rewrite each sentence 4-5 times. Once that is finished (and it gets easier and faster the more you do it) hit the spin button and each sentence will be a random one.

If you do it correctly, you will have 100+ new articles, all very unique, that make sense and will be approved by article directories and guest blog sites.

Lets say Im the original of the content.. so in order to have a wider exposure you need to post it to different sites.

My question, when I started to post to different sites, is that a duplicate content even thou you just have to gain wider exposure?

    Thanks!

    Hi NavySealWorkOuts,

(Love the name, but would never want to work out with a Navy Seal. LOL. Hoorah!)

Yes, it would be considered duplicate content, BUT...

Search Engines try to display the original source of the duplicate content if they can. So, in order to make sure the article on your site is displayed instead of another site, make sure to have a link in the resource box pointing to the original article on your website.

Most article directories allow 2-3 links in the resource box. So you could have one link pointing to your main or home page, and another link pointing to the original article on your site.

If you are submitting it to blogs or other places, same thing but then you can place a link somewhere in the article itself pointing back to the original article on your website.

This way each of those articles will be pointing to the article on YOUR website, letting the search engines know that YOUR website has the original article.

Actually, I got slammed by Google for doing this, even though the resource box pointed to my own site. The site I posted on got listed, while my site dropped to the supplemental results.

I pulled the duplicate content and my site jumped back up again. I think a lot of it has to do with how competitive your niche is.

Page load speed is not an important ranking factor although it still is. This is due to the fact that almost Google and other SE's cannot read almost 50% of site speeds due to some technicalities.

Oh, by the way, great post ranijyoti68!

Sometimes you can turn this into advantage. There are high competitive words which people mistype in search engines so often. These Typo words don't get targeted by everyone or even noticed. So sometimes you can get considerable amount traffic from these keywords if you make and optimize nice landing pages for those.

    here are some more:

    Use of images than text
    Use of excessive JS files
    Creation of really long URL
Use of excessive keywords in the content etc.

agree, but if someone is expecting sales, maybe it will not be an advantage. Better to get traffic and and rank easily.
