    In reply to burgers comment#17:

The custom is to advertise more during down economic times. Those that drop advertising dollars lose market share to those that step up their advertising. As the double dip idea hits home, far more advertising dollars will go to online channels as companies need their budgets to stretch and to the dwindling offline channels that have a history of strong ROI. I would guess that PPC will drop while other channels will increase online.

the basic rules still hold according to google webmaster rules. We need to provide valuable unique and original contents. Backlinks are important if they are from high quality not those spam blog commenting type of comments.

That can really help online yes, but what would you do if you decided to use offline marketing as well as online marketing. Would you coordinate it all, or not use it at all and just stick to IM?

Of course the web is changing and the way we should do our marketing. If you keep up with the developments on internet behaviour and serchengine rules (meaning keep optimizing your strategies) it's fine. Although the web is getting overloaded "opportunities" which makes it more and more difficult and for most it seems impossible these days. That's why nowadays it's so important to be "different" and stand out.

To keep up to date with developments you should check webpronews.com regularly or subscribe to their newsletter. You'll find it very useful for sure and you'll know what to prepare for before the masses do.

That can open an entirely new debate actually. Everyone needs the internet, yes, but that does not necessarily seal the fate of Internet Marketing. Just like any business sector before it and after it, IM can be rendered useless in some form would you not agree?

Internet marketing is an exponentially growing "business", so it's logical that it will become more difficult. The old school methods lost their effect, the sicoal networks don't deliver the results as well as they used to, etc.. Only inovative and marketers who keep up with new developments will survive I think. Billions of internet users accross the world...hundreds of millions of IM'ers all using the same methods... Do the math. :-)

A new development is the mobile network, but even that is already flooded with marketers trying to sell their products.

I've read a pretty damn good report lately explaining the 5 main phases a new technology goes through. This goes for new IM methods, too. When it's in its 3rd and 4th phase everyone who knows about it will use it and it's losing its value and effect. When it gets to the 5th phase it's pretty much obsolete. This whole process usually takes between 3 to 5 years, sometimes up to 10 years.

Development goes fast on internet, so it's important to stay informed.

I know that, I was just trying to prove a point I was making. Look at the meta keywords for instance. Google doesn't like 'em, but other SE's do. The concept of using meta keywords is taboo because it has been devalued and really not worth it anymore (Even so, I still make use of them, just not as well as I would have when they were popular). The panda update is already putting a new spin on article marketing, blogging and websites as a whole, and many of Google's other aglos are already cutting down on link farms etc.

What really had me thinking at one point is that, many optimize for Google, and very rarely for other search engines. Is it because they are the top dogs? Why does it seem that it is going to be impossible for there to be the same rules for each SE. Is it even a good idea to think that?

Google is key IMO. Most search engines (maybe asside from yahoo) use google's index and use their own "rues" or formulas (if they have any). Google's algorythms are too complex to understand completely I think.
I just know that the basic SEO techniques work the same for all SE's, although not all SE's crawl websites as regularly as google. So results may vary accross time on other SE's.

If someone else knows some facts I don't know about...please tell us. I've just been using the same SEO techniques for a few years now and only with satisfying results.

I don't think there is a way to predict what will happen in 15 yeas. In internet years this is pretty much a century. It would be hard to predict what will happen in 2 -3 years.

The scope of internet marketing can not be end but it can be change. We can not ignore the importance of internet marketing in any way because most of the businesses are working in this field to improve their quality and business.

Eventually basic "survival of the fittest" will occur
When only strong IMarketer will survive
Although its getting harder and harder to rank in google, its also easier in a way. As each day, there is always new and improved tools and software developed to help us.
I think google itself isn't purposely trying to make IM harder, as IM is a huge part of internet and google itself.
They are just trying to make improvement for user (including us) so we can get better experience when using G

well, that's just my opinion anyway

What do you think will change? Will it be a complete change? Or just a lot of small changes?

Once you can adapt to the changing internet, then you should be able to stand out ahead of the others out there. It is a dynamic place and things are constantly changing, that is why it is important to read.

For internet marketers it's much more important to acquire customers that stick with you, than to get too hung up on the search engines.
People who use search engines to find what they're looking for are NOT buyers in the first place...it's information they're looking for, not products.

There are many ways to acquire customers without using search engines and the next step, to keep them as your customers, is quite easy.
Do you really think, that with the internet marketing business growing exponentially like it does, search engines will play a big role in building a business online ?
    I certainly don't hink so.

If you want to keep playing around with adsense niche sites, then I would focus on the newest trends and be one of the first.
There are BILLIONS of internet users, HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of websites, incredibly fast growing competition in ALL markets (everyne is looking for hidden niches for years now)...
The usual, traditional ways of IM will stop being effective, especially with the mobile market, tablets, iPads, etc. spreading like free hotdogs right now...

And thinking out of the box is not for everyone I'm affraid...it would need effort and most IM'ers are lazy.

We'll see what will happen, but one tip I MUST give you...
Start building a mailing list...i will still be the most effective way to make sales.
Do cross promotions, find affiliates with mailing lists, JV partnerships, etc..

Simply put...there will ALWAYS be traffic sources online and people will always want to buy products, services, and information. So there will always be a future for internet marketers...at least for the rest of our lives.

Remember that when one traffic source dries up, there is always another one that is opening up! Got to be resilient
