Do you also use answer sites for internet marketing purposes?

Well, I have seen lots of people on Yahoo Answer! promoting their products, services and affiliate programs as well.

But one thing is clear if you spread much spam on these sites then your account may be banned so you have to contribute first if you want to take some thing from it.

What's your opinion on it?

That's a reasonable prohibitions. It's part of the Yahoo protocols to do such as far as I'm concerned.

I've used Yahoo answers to help promote some of my products. The thing is I do it sparingly and only when it's highly relevant. I had a couple of my answers (that included self promotion) voted as best answers. There is a right way and a wrong way to using these channels, so a little common sense can go a long way.

It also depends on niche. Some categories are heavy spammed and also competitors do their best to report if they see anyone else try to promote in same niche.

Also higher your level is less chance to get banned unless you do something stupid like openly promoting a link.

My impression is that the overwhelming majority of users of question/answer sites are teenagers. Really. I don't recall questions/answers that would interest anyone who doesn't have acne. Maybe there are a few technical questions that might interest people of all ages. But most of the rest of the stuff is of limited interest. Anyone else agree?

Yes, our marketers are participating to different forums and yahoo answers that would generate traffic as well.

If you do back link research on any well known business site you'll find they've used answer sites. I was researching buildabear because they are the golden ring of personalized teddy bears (one of our businesses) and even they have sent their teams out to answer questions.

Yahoo answers is a site where you get to answer questions asked by people online. I've actually used it a lot (although only when it comes to games it seems. If I get stuck in an area and am not sure where to go to next, I look it up and 99% of the time, I get the answers at Yahoo.).

Yahoo Answer can be used for promoting ones products or services online but only when it is relevant to give a link to a specific product or services online and there's nothing wrong in it but giving too many irrelevant backlinks is considered as spam and causes being banned from Answers Community.

People who are looking for answers these days are no buyers.
The way people use internet has changed a lot in the last few years and many "techniques" like this one simply don't work anymore.
You might get some visitors from it, but probably no customers and it just takes too much time compared with the results you get from it.

There's so many Q&A sites by now...imagine having to participate in several of them and getting hardly any increase in visitors.
Waste of time for me...there's a lot more better ays to increase traffic...

I agree to the point that you may get traffic from these sites, but there are customers out there too. Its just the point to give your link on a highly relevant question. Throwing your site's link will result in just spam. If a question is asked regarding your site your link in it will do your site good but posting a business link in spiritual section won't do any good. Even though there are less customers out there yet it is a kind of publicity and it might do some good. Internet marketing techniques sure have changed but some old school tricks are still applicable.

There's no need to join every answering community and it is not possible either. Yahoo answers receive high traffic just answer those concerning your area of business and you might get a client.

Sometimes i saw many SERP (for certain keyword) come from Yahoo Answer site, some are just silly answered, some are promoting something or given useful link to the question being asked, normally the same person is answer the question being asked,, till now i still can see, yahoo answer still index well in Google SERP

Yes I have used the q&A section of the forums and also Sites like stackoverflow. Very high traffic

in service industry, sometimes you have to get trust of your visitors by showing your expertise.IN such scenario, answer sites will be more helpful to crate your name and give best solution to users who will start to trust in you and may purchase your premium service. So this way it will be perfect platform to create your own network of people who trust on your advice

I do not know others but I do get many sell from YA. It works for me.
