You can use Facebook and Twitter, do not always try to promote or sell your service but give some valuable information (i.e. tips) for your visitors.
I think craigslist is also a good media to use.

Maybe what your boss meant is 30-40 keywords per website.
It will be better and easier for you to optimize a web page if you only use 1-2 keywords...
