How long for a new site to get indexed?

Hey!

just a quick question - basically the slurp bot and google bot visits my site every day at least 10 times each time getting different pages... do I need to wait for some type of 'update' (i keep reading about this) before my pages are listed? Or do you think my problem is purely in-links right now?

Only my homepage is indexed by google and MSN. It's been about 2 months since the bots started looking at my site..

I just want to know whether to be worried right now about a potential ban of penalty of some kind imposed on my site..?

Has anyone had this problem before and does it rectify itself??

Very simple solution for you. Install Wordpress SEO Plugin and Rebuilt your Sitemap and then submit to All Search Engines using This great plugin. Yours pages will be started to index in no time.

Yes, it takes some time, normally a week, not months as you said
one thing you can do is to use the IMT Website Submitter, that can help
also, make sure you don't have any no-index meta data

No it doesnt even take weeks, new websites will be in the index in a few hours to one day. Just place some bookmarks and ping them.

i agree with carny, usually my new site indexed only on few hours maximum 2 days. I usually ping them on pingoat

Fix your internal linking, but indexing can take a couple of days, or may not get indexed if low quality content, duplicate, robot generated, non human readable, spammy, too blackhat, over optimised with SEO, bad neighbourhood content etc etc.
Apart from that, just give it time

It shouldn't take long. Webmaster Tools can also help in indexing your site, I find. Submit your sitemap and it gets downloaded and crawled pretty quickly. Using the IMT Website Submitter also helps this process. Its a great tool which has indexed my sites in a couple of hours. If you have started backlinking heavily as soon as you've registered the domain this could have effected the indexing process as Google could have picked this up as being spam.

I find the longest I have waited is around 3 days. It really doesn't take long at all!

Do social-bookmarking in few sites which have high traffic and high PR and this helps to make the bot crawl your site within few minutes. But make sure to have original content.

In Wordpress Blogs with pingoat it takes a few hours by me. Fresh websites 1 or 2 days. Yesterday i need 3 hours for a brand new Domain :-) and tody there a 17 sites indexed from 20
