    Are torrents illegal ?

how many of you think that the torrents are illegal ?> torrent sites usually don't have any illegal content or copies except meta data. So if you say it is illegal, why >?
are they helping to spread illegal and warez digital media copies ?

The US doesn't "ban" sites (for countries that do that, see China, Iran,etc.). If a site violates certain US laws (or the feds at least think they do), they can try to have a court seize control of the domains. this is what happened with the .com domains for pokerstars and fulltiltpoker a few weeks ago.

If you are downloading copyrighted material via a torrent, and you don't have a right to that copyrighted material (i.e., you didn't buy the right to use it from the copyright holder), then you are breaking the law. Now, with the way that torrents download and upload packets of info, you would also be guilty of illegal sharing the copyrighted material as well.

Yea, certain torrent sites try to claim that they aren't doing anything wrong by allowing others to share the links on their sites, but under most country's laws that just doesn't fly.

I agree with all of this, but there are some legitimate uses for torrents and the technology. The problem is the way that most torrents are used.

I don't follow that as I don't illegally download or share someone else's copyrighted material :-)

I think everyone is guilty of downloading copyrighted materials. I never met anyone who doesn't violate copyrighted material in some way.

There are some proxy settings you gonne set up in a right way to be anonym.
So you dont have any problems to think about beeing illegal.

But you have to know.. the most of the cracked softwares you can download via torrent are infected with virus and maleware.

Maybe the developers themselves upload them to get more sales of their softwares.

That's not something they would talk about on the evening news typically here. Now, craigslist is a different story.
