    Any experience with GIMP?

Have any of you ever used the image manipulation program GIMP? If not check it out at gimp.org. If you have used it what do you think? To be honest I like it in most cases more than Photoshop. It really has almost all of the same options and features and I just like the controls and feel of GIMP. I probably only say this because GIMP is what I started on (I refused to illegally download PhotoShop) and after learning an entire program like that its a pain to switch. I have photoshop now but I find myself rarely using it.

So what are your thoughts on GIMP vs PS? And dont just through out the argument "Photoshop costs money so it must be better" because thats just ignorance.

What how can this be, you seriously like Gimp better than photoshop? Yes I agree GIMP is a good free software but it's nothing compared to photoshop I'm not even sure how you can compare them.. I think if you thin GIMP is better you just need to learn how to use Photoshop better... I personally think a good comparison for GIMP is paint.net.. Between those tow it's close..

Photoshop is the best out there once you learn how to use it.

I have used both photoshop and the gimp. I actually prefer gimp because it can be tweaked to do whatever you want it to do, as well as setting it up to work like photoshop.

I have always used PS. I was intrigued by GIMP so I went to their site to check it out. Well, if their program is anything like their website i will not be downloading it.
I am surprised that a site promoting an alternative to PS would create such a 'hard to view' web site. I will stick with PS

I haven't found the site that difficult to read at all. I have designed logos in gimp, and I am also working on a digital painting for my art page that looks as good as if it was painted in photoshop or corel painter. I have been a digital artist for 7 years, and can use either gimp, ps, corel, plus a few others quite easily. But somehow gimp is better for me. It doesn't slow my pc down, and I have had less problems than either corel or photoshop.

I have dont any problem with gimp page, and TONS of free additions createdy from user for user as free too. I use and test to that day many of free and commercial programs for bitmap design and its my opinion:
PS work fine they have great promotions like windows - they also works "fine"

Gimp is a free and promotions to that day is very poor - but programist who write gimp are very good programist - not SEO/SE/Marketing guys

Over 30 printing magasines, 300 official portal on the world, official and unofficial "certifications" LOL - over 80% discount for school (teach kid - some of them will buy PS in future ) ... hundert of dollars spending only for promotions that soft... - PS is a part of COMMERCE site of design I do not mind it. Its a nice product
But who in their right mind would use windows / ps if previously not been taught to use it after the law? Who would use this if it was not issued by the creation of millions of dollars of these two famous brands of products?
I know: NOBODY but who use them? over 97% Desingers
So gimp is better as PS but shitty promotion make this product underestimated.. shame.
