If you're spamming profiles, probably not so good unless you're going for the quick rankings and quick cash before getting de-indexed, etc... But, if you're a a knowledgeable person in a certain niche, it's great and almost imperative for branding. Search your keyword phrase in G, click MORE on the left, then Discussion... register and chime in on all the threads in the serps and become the local expert... after the trust factor increases, so will your CTR in your sig link...

Couldn't agree more. If you take the time to read the article before commenting then you can make your comment relevant and more chance of sticking. Also use their name if possible as this is also good.
