Can you have too many internal links?

I have been looking at upping the number of internal links I have on each page. Apart from menus I have been typically having 2-3 relevant anchors in the text and 1 or 2 links to other pages at the bottom of the text.

Any comments on whether this is OK too little or too much or not the best of approaches in the first place?

I don't know can there be too many internal links, but if the site looks spammy with too many anchor texst. I doubt I would visit those sites again.

I think there was up to 100 internal links per page considered not spam by G, this was few years ago don't know if this is still actual.

Thanks for the link Learning SEO.

It seems that the old 100 links rule has gone so my level of linking is probably more about the user experience than anything else. So I can put that one to bed :-)

I also think that 1998 rules are no more in place, Google has evolved since then dramatically.

Yes, the best thing would be to make some On-Page basic stuff and always put your visitor experience in the first place and Google will find his way.
It is very hard to catch latest trends in SEO, but it is very easy to write content and create websites for visitors.

Internal Links help in redistributing the PageRank to other post pages. Internal Links should be created in a way to guide the spider smoothly to the rest of the website.

One thing to think about when making these links is doing it in a link silo method. If you like to another internal page that's not directly related to the subject of the article you're writing and only refer to it in passing or as a reference, then I would rel="nofollow" the link. However, if it's closely related, let the link juice flow. But, don't overdo it as it can be seem as page PR sculpting. But NF'inf the links makes sense for a few links. Say you write about dog training and refer to training collars and wee pads you wrote about previously, let the link juice flow. but, if you refer to dog food and shampoo and want to link to it, NF them since they're not pertaining to dog training.

I'm sure not many people do this, but from what I've read, link juice from related pages is more powerful, so I take the 5secs and do it if need be.

Normally 4 or 5 internal links is okey, as long as there is a relation on them. I always do it manually, so I control it.

Its not bad to have many internal links refering with anchor texts to deeper pages within your website, but the internal linking musst be based on content relation between the pages, otherwise the internal linking could be considered as spammy, so great content should link to related content within a website.

Yes I agree, up to 100 internal links per page ios not valid anymore
