Google does not use the meta description as a ranking factor but they often use it as the text returned with the search results. Your description should provide a reason to click on your link and if you can work the keyword in all the better.
You also need your page keywords in the text on the page at least once near the beginning and once near the end and with some variations in between. But write first for your visitor and second for the SEs, make your content read well. If you can make it look natural underline, italicize, or bold your keywords once on the page, as these will draw the attention of the SEs. Also, sub-headings (h2-h6) are of value as keyword locators if they will help your content. An added value to sub-headings is that they make your content more scanable, and may retain a visitor longer on your page than a massive block of text.

Use your keywords in anchor text. Link to related posts from your blog. Use Bold & underline & italics. Use headings. Use the keyword in the starting para & in the last para of your article. Lost of thing just wait for few days & you would see an article on my blog blogaspire.com
H1, H2, H3, bolded text, italic...all important. Just don't overdo it.
And use several keyword phrases with the main keyword in it.
Also...use anchor text links with those keywords to link to other pages on your site.
Once your on-site SEO is done you can start suing those keywords for creating inbound links from other websites/directories/IMT Supercharged BMs, etc.
