If you do a google search for copyscape, you will find that the first url on the list points directly to it. From there you check if your content was used anywhere else on the net. Plagiarism is a serious offence (to put it bluntly). I tested one of my blogs, and all I had to do was copy the url of the blog into the search bar, and it showed me the top ten links that had a title similar to mine.

indeed very annoying when this happens on our blog content.
There are several steps that I normally do on my blog.
and this step you can also use

    1. Be sure to select Summary in the feed menu, this option may not wear for those who prefer to read blog content via RSS as happens in bits and pieces, but what can I say because the feed has been in the wrong use by certain elements, ok for you to choose Settings Summary - > Reading, see the section For EACH article in a feed, the show then click "Summary"

Benefits: Your article on the blog entirely terpublish not a thief, would not want to "read more" to the original article.

    2. Use RSS Footer plugin, to accomplish the above with this plugin, because even if your feed is set but the thief Summary feeds generally give Nofollow attribute to link your article or did not link your article, so that Google can not detect that you are the original link, therefore, this plugin will provide a link on each post in your feed.

Their is a way of protecting your content. It needs some javasrcipt code on your site and it will never let anyone to select the text of your site and when anyone try to select the text it will display a dialogue box with text (chosen by you)

This is just to keep basically honest people honest. Most content is scrapped by bots, not real visitors. Browsers have a switch to turn javascript off, and java script is not active in source view. If it is on a server and somebody wants it it is probably theirs.

Oh that's the point I totally forget, then I guess their is no other way you can totally protect your content from copying... but I think search engines know very well that who is the real owner of the content.

    GUYS!!! Keep it cool...

If Google indexed your content first... so youre dont need to think about stealing. let them steal!
Important is that google indexed your content first.

Many People used WP-Robot... (google about this)
its a robot plugin for wordpress which is stealing content from other sites and post it automatically on your wordpress blog to generate content.

But there are many better robot plugins which can translating and also spinning the text...

can you folks imagine that some webmasters dont work on any blogs but still getting traffic and earning money by affiliate or adsense by posting everytime fresh and automatic content???

I think google almost know what is the original and what is copied, however if you like, go to copyscape and add their banner to your site, they say it can protect sites from copying.

No Copyscape can only show you who is stealing your Content.

You need to go to DMCA to craete a account! --------> dmca to protect content @ Google Web Search

And if anyone stealing your content... you can earn money by dmca.

This Banner is most stronger than Copyscape! ---> http://www.dmca.com/Badges.aspx

Here you can see a sample / example of a protection dokumentation

If your site is making money I wouldn't worry too much about anyone else copying your content.

The time you waste chasing copyright offenders is better served creating more of your own content.

Unless you have a bigdog site making heaps of money then forget about it.

How To Protect Your Website Content?
Content is the king! So goes the age old adage in the world of website design. Quite obviously then, your website content is a treasured possession. With all the time and effort that you out in developing quality content, you would like to see it work in your favor.

However, what makes for a killing feeling is when you see your own content posted on some other web page without any knowledge of yours. Moreover, your search engine rankings get affected as a result of duplicate content. No matter what you do to protect you content, hackers and thieves are often able to get away with your content. But there is still help at hand. Here are some tips that will help you to discourage content theft and make the process more difficult.

    Copyright your Website Content

Copyrighting your website can protect against blatant content theft. When you have copyrights for your website content, then you can protect it from people who altogether copy the contents word by word and place it on their website without giving you any credits. Go to the Copyright Office website at www.copyright.gov and register your website there. The earlier you do this, the better. So make sure you complete the application within three months of launching your website. You will need pay a processing fee apart from sending copies of all the web pages whose content you need to protect. Also, create a CD that contains copies of all the files of your website and keep it as backup for yourself. Insert the copyright meta tag on all your web pages that has your company name or website name. When the application has been accepted, you will be send a 'Certificate of Registration'. This will entitle you to sue any person or company who steals your work and ask them for compensation. Moreover, when you win the case, you can also recover all the costs for lawyer fees and statutory damages.

    Altering the Website Code

This technique may not save your content from professional hackers and thieves. However, you can save it from amateurs. Remove all the unnecessary spaces in the HTML code of your website. This will make it difficult for people to read through the whole code and find individual text options. Thus, it will not be easy for thieves to simple lift your content filled web pages. Another way is to disable the right click function of your website by using JavaScript. This can prevent people from selecting text and images on your website and copying it on some other places. However, this can get pretty annoying for genuine visitors who come to your website and want to take some information.

    Change the Text Contents

You can use Photoshop or just any other image editing software and change the text elements into images. Here is how you can do that. Select the text that you want to change. Open a new image file and select an appropriate size that will accommodate the body of the text. Sharpen the image. Save the file. Don't forget that large images with very high resolution can make web pages to load slower. Therefore, its better to save the text images in medium resolution. When you upload the file to your website, people would still be able to print the file. But then they will have to re-type every word of it to reuse the contents

I have to agree. Installing all sorts of plugins etc. to "protect" your site only makes your site slower. (which lowers your pagerank) Not to mention the time you are wasting.

Sometimes when people steal my images, I just upload a new image with the same name including some nice new content, just for kicks. Great way to build traffic too.
