Most of the paid keyword tools use the Google keyword tool API. They give a lot of additional information available from the UI with a click or as an automated process. MNF will check for keyword domain availability in .com, .net, and .org TDLs using the GoDaddy api, it will give you exact (default), phrase, or broad search counts, it will check competitive backlinks and will give an algorithmic strength of competition estimate. There is also a column for OCI, Microsofts estimate of commercial intent, but this has not worked recently. There is a listing of the estimated Adwords ad cost for the keyword as well if it is working.
Many of the major data providers have gone on a bandwidth crusade against automated inquiries. This is making life hard for developers of the tools and affecting the user experience of the users. Before the battle these tools presented so much information that they were of real value. You would need to go to several different places to get the in depth information that was presented within the UI of the tool.

Has anyone ever taken a guess/punt at a potential keyword? I've bought a domain that I think will explode in the near future, but as it's only got 100 monthly searches it's a bit scary putting any time into it, as my time at the moment is at a premium.
'Ad words' tools is the best "keyword research" tools in this way you will find a better performance and satisfaction.

I think google keyword tools is great becuase first it is free. . It is also great becuase stats are strait from google. I also like it becuase you can find the cpc of a keyword and which ones are best to go for and you can make money with. Everyone loves more money.
Adwords is the best tool as it gives detailed information about keyword.
Google adwords is great it is good to check the keyword in it. Gives the best results of the keyword.
I also use only Google Keywords Tool, cause it's free and so awesome.
I can lose a great deal of time working with it though, so I have thought about getting Market Samurai.
Find seed keywords in Google Keywords Tool then research it in serpattatcks. i think market samurai more powerful but it cost so high.
On my level Google Keywords Tool is absolutely enough. If people doing only "Pure" SEO (i mean, don't adding it to their own special business know ledges), probably they need more.
Yes but its not accurate, its all estimates, the CPC is also very inaccurate. Which tool offers accuracy?

I use Google keyword tool and I find it good. But I also google my keywords to find out how competitive they are by placing the words in inverted commas "..." and then search. I also look for other related keywords by using ~ followed by the keyword (e.g. ~education).
