Thread: Will this affect long term ranking?

The blog I have been working on is a blogger blog and I have it set up to where when you hit the home page it is like a welcome page Then there are pages to the side that you can navigate. Will it hurt me to leave the home page alone and just add say, a new page to the sidebar every month or so? I was wanting it more like a website than a blog. I hope this makes sense.

That will not hurt you at all. As long as you are adding good content that is unique you will only be helped by adding content in Google's eyes.

Also, you can target other KWs in you niche for the other pages and this will also help your site gain PR. e.g. main site is on golf swing then the other pages could be on things in this niche like golf balls, golf shoes, improve your swing, the perfect back swing etc etc. These can have affiliate links on them for the KWs if you wish from a network or even clickbank.

Yeah, the homepage is like I said, kind of a welcome page for muscle car restoration. Then the pages on the nav bar are different aspects with tips and techniques of restoration. I see tons of affiliate possibilities but so far I have just focused on content (It does have adsense at the bottom and an amazon carousel)then I figured I would kinda add links to affiliates as I go.I also made a link to a facebook fan page I created that I am posting photos on. The anchor tag says "photos of recent projects" I know that blogger is not the best route, but I am mostly interested in IM and SEO so with all of the outsourcing possibilities available I am just working on what I like to do at this point. It is a lot less overwhelming for a newbie

Then you should make a website because when you rank it and get traffic on it you will feel that you should create a website therefore in starting you should start your own paid website.

I suggest you to invest 10$ in buying a real domain if you are serious about this.

The more you will write And makes it look like you know what you are talking about. It adds to the discussion. AND the readers get to learn more. It is a win for everyone. This will you will never loss your ranking ..!!

Having a static homepage should not hurt your rankings on Google in theory. However, having at least some rich snippets from your recent articles appear in your sidebar should definitely help.
