Making money without knowing!

I was never with Amazon associate program because of the low commission rates. Despite of this, I tried to monetize my blog with amazon. I left it for few days without promotion.

I'm totally surprised with this. I've been neglecting a huge earning source that I could make hundreds of dollar.

You guys should try this as well, if you currently aren't. It's totally worth it! The best thing is people can buy ANYTHING on amazon through your affiliate link.

It'd be my pleasure to share my strategies with you guys :)

So, here some important tips and what I do to bank with amazon:

--- First and the most important thing I do is add the affiliate link WITHIN the content.

Basically, I add a product picture, a little description for it, and a call to action link in a post. Now HERE comes the tricky part. Most people just add a affiliate link in call to action or product name. Here, what I do is add affiliate link to product image, product name and call to action.

Why? Because people LOVE images. It's a human nature. Visual images increases attention and MAKE people to buy the things they want. So make sure you add up a high quality image of your product and make it clickable with your affiliate link.

--- Don't bother using amazon banner aStore in your site, people barely click on it and it doesn't covert.

--- Make a useful list post about the things that people actually want to buy. Or you can create best seller list available in Amazon.

I'm testing with Amazon 'Buy Now' buttons within the post, I'll keep you guys update about it and my new strategies.

Very cool. I also use my own links and call to action. I'm curios to see if using 3 links pointing to the same link will effect you in search rankings. I always try to stick with one, maybe two if I link the image. Congrats on finding that money :)

Well, in that case, I use nofollow attribute in the link tag. Since the affiliate link is directly linked with amazon.com (and it's trusted site), I leave 2 of 3 links dofollow. I'm currently one page 2 for my keyword. Let's see how it'll go.. ;)

I already mentioned in the original post that my blog is 2 months old and it has been getting around 100 page views daily.

I'm in electronics niche. I don't choose what to write about. I just go to amazon's best-sellers list and list them on the post.

You make a list on a post. You don't write the reivews but you can generate money.
I think you are lucky.
In my opinion, people need reviews before they decide to buy. There's a strange buying behavior, I think.

There's literally nothing strange and I don't think it's about 'luck'. You might not have understood, but it depends on what kind of product you're promoting. Take apparel stuff for example. Do you need 'reviews' about that before buying? I don't think so! I'd just pick up the one I like and continue what I was doing.

And FYI, if you don't know, we get commission for EVERY item people buy through our amazon affiliate link. That's one big good advantage. Now, imagine (this is happening to me) people come to buy a shoe and they end up buying 10 other addition stuff they want. Win-win ;)

It's been few days I didn't posted an update. Though I reached $100+ earnings milestone a couple of days ago, I didn't posted it here.

Okay, this is probably going to be the last earning screenshot that I post in this thread.

I just wanna let you guys know that since I started this thread a month ago (as you can see the date in original post of this thread), I've earned over $3000. This might not be an impressive and 'good enough' figure for some, but it's absolutely big for me.

I'd be happy to help you. :) Just make sure that you've choosen the topic which people are willing to spend their money to purchase the product on. Once your site is established, make use of IMT tools and some trusted fiverr gigs to rank your specific page.

Nope. I created the website on August, and the site started getting traffic just on early October. I posted the amazon product list on mid-october and then the site hit 1000 visits/day mark. Since then, the site is doing quite well :)

Anup can you share little more insights with our members, for example:
- Where you are doing your keyword research (free & paid tools) and which bringing results?
- What is your current WP setup, must have plugins, best themes(CTR,Converting,speed,looks), etc..?
- How many articles you are writing per day?
- How you promote your articles, social, links, CPC, how many visits you are getting for each article daily on average and is traffic rising over time or is it constant?
- Is traffic coming only from google organic search or from your subscribers, other sites/referrals?
- What are some crucial things one need to do (or not to do) in order to make it with amazon in your opinion and based on your experience so far?

You can even make a little YT video going trough the traffic and amazon reports, so we can get more info on relation between these two, sure you can blur things you don't want us to see.

- I don't do much keyword research, but I think of what is popular, what people want and what people want to buy. I tried using Google's keyword tool for adwords, but since they made some major changes to it, everything's messed up and it mostly shows the wrong data.

- I'd suggest to install useless plugins that takes extra load in your site. Here's my active plugins that I'm currently using:

Akismet
Auto Terms of Service and Privacy Policy (this is a MUST)
BackupBuddy
Google XML Sitemaps v3 for qTranslate
WordPress SEO (by YOAST)

WHAT TYPE OF THEME TO USE?

I've experimented with so many different themes. I also tried moving the sidebar to the left side and main content to the right of the page. This didn't convert much because most people focus on the things that on the left first and then right. So, I tried another theme that has main content on the left and and sidebar on the right. It has LOTS of white spaces, very simple and clean. This is the current theme layout I'm using, and I think these kind of themes convert the most. So, choose the theme that's simple, clean with lots of white spaces and easy to navigate.

HOW MANY ARTICLES PER DAY?

As my site is 'news' type of site, my site needs to be updated daily with fresh information. So, I update it daily and you should too because some search engines loves the sites that gives daily fresh information. :)

HOW I PROMOTE

I don't do much promotion. But I use tools to get more retweets, fb share and more Google plus ones. I've ONLY 2 ARTICLES that has amazon affiliate links in it and it get about 4,000 visits daily on each. Sometimes, I lose my rank so the traffic drops by 60 to 70% but when I regain my rankings eventually the traffic becomes constant. I've also been using IMT social bookmark tool. I'm sure it's helping to improve my rankings.

WHERE'S THE TRAFFIC COMING FROM?

90% traffic from search engines, 4% from social media sites, and 6% other referral sites.

THINGS TO BE AVARE OF

I see lots of people are getting banned from amazon associates simple they didn't read their Operating Agreement (OA). They simply ban you for not following their one simple thing that's mentioned on the OA. For example, you MUST NOT mention the product price in your post. They could BAN YOU if you do this and they don't pay you no matter how much you've earned till now. So, it's worth to spend an hour to read their agreement carefully. Trust me.

This is the exact step I followed, and THERE'S NO SECRET AT ALL.

NOW, what you're thinking is "Oh, this is too time consuming and may not worth it". THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT BEFORE I MADE A CENT FROM AMAZON. AND THAT'S WHY I CALLED THIS AN 'ACCIDENTAL FORTUNE'. NOW IT'S BEEN ABOUT 2 MONTHS AND MY TOTAL EARNINGS TILL NOW IS OVER $11,000. SO, GO DON'T WAIT FOR A MIRACLE TO HAPPEN, MAKE THEM HAPPEN YOURSELF!

Anyone can do it (sure, with a little luck), but you just need to actually read and use your common sense.
I see same problem over and over again for years now.
People are too damn fast, not having the time to actually read anything and make one step back to see and think about it for a while,
instead they start doing things the wrong way right away.
If you want to make it online, you need to know what you are doing and plan your next steps ahead.

Anup, can you share more info about your social strategies?
For example are you using some social service for likes/tw/G+ to jump start your social presence,
or you just publish on your social profiles and people share naturally?
Any other info/suggestion is welcome(I'm currently making new social and behavioral software, so I'm interested too :))

Hey OP great post. A question on putting the Amazon affiliate link in your site. Do you use the shortened version eg http://amzn.to/UsV73X or do you just use the actual URL they give?
I'm experimenting with the shortened version at the moment myself.

Also, regarding Amazon's terms. Do you need to put somewhere on your site that the site is an Amazon site?
I see this on the footer of some Amazon affiliate sites. It is a must?

If you are an amazon affiliate you might be knowing, if I join in India, can I sell products in US? Is that allowed , an idea.

Amazon surely gives you good income. But there is tough competition to amazon in india from other sites like flipkart, snapdeal and few other.

I know I hadn't updated this thread for a while. I apologize. As many of you are aware that Google changes its ranking algorithm most frequently, I have lost my grip.

To make the long story short, basically two things happened:

1. My site went out form the first page for a particular keyword.
2. Some guy literally copied every single thing I'm doing with my site (including themes, posting style and images).

If you have kept an eye on this thread and followed this thread from the the time I posted, you may have noticed that I removed some of content from couple of post (like earning screenshots, and other infos). All I had to do this because of the reason number 2. I had to leave the competition behind and it seemed that people would continue to copy my entire work and it didn't seem quite right.

Despite all this, I'll continue to update this thread with all the information you guys require so that you can make most of Amazon.

I was (and currently am) using a social service for some social proof. I sometimes use Pinterest to pin all the images of my posts. Pinterest sends me quite decent traffic. For other social networks, usually I automate everything.

Real precise I'd say. For instance, if you're trying to promote laptop, then think about what people look into it. You can use Google Keyword Planner to find how popular the certain keyword is and check its potential.

I use the full version of affiliate link because short version looks unnatural and lowers the trust among visitors.

I just put the discloser on 'terms' page. If you're really concerned, you can put it on the footer to avoid future disputes.

You can join affiliate-program.amazon.in to promote products from India. If you want to promote US product, just join with a normal associate account.
