Videos on blogs, can they help increase visitors?

I've been reading about the success other bloggers have been having with videos on their blogs. Some have even used software that converts their blog posts into videos.

Would it be a good idea to have videos in blogs? can they help increase visitors? And what about the SEO factor?

If you decided to put a video on your blog (as an actual post), how would you go about it?

As far as i concern... when you put videos on your blog(if people watch it), it will increase your ranking as well because Google will take note about how long your visitor stay on your site, besides software that converts the blogposts into video kind of new to me.. i wonder what software

I see occasional search traffic to videos that I have posted. I am always amazed because they are just youTube videos, why would someone come to my site to view a youTube video? I do sometimes write a short commentary on the video but I have not checked correlation between commented videos and traffic.

Mechanically, I started using some inline styles for presentation, but that became tiresome so I made some classes in the css for the various sizes that are common. It is easy to add the embed code supplied by youTube in the html view on your post page. With videos I usually preview the page to make sure I dotted the i's and crossed the t's.

I will find out what software it is. IT converts a blog post to a video somehow .

AH so you add vids from youtube itself. I wonder how much trickier it would be to add it directly from the media library. Although I probably wouldn't get many because its a wordpress hosted site and I probably have a limited server space.

There are plug-ins to play videos, but the results can be hit or miss. I have a WMV player on the site, but if the format of the video is not exactly right the video will not display properly. That specific site is the email archive site. I found that when I get a WMV video by email it is almost always available from youTube and it is quick and easy to embed the video in the page.

I think that the best choice for most any video is to upload to a video sharing site that provides embed code and let them deal with the storage space and bandwidth. YouTube even hosts HD video now days.

Sounds reasonable. It would be better to have YouTube or something similar host the videos, it would also help the blog page its on load a bit faster I take it?

Do you guys prefer watching videos to reading on a blog, do you like a mix of materials, or do you prefer the standard blog formats?

That would depend on the material covered. For entertainment and entertaining ways to emphasize a point the video is a good choice. If there is a transcription on a tutorial video I sometimes read the transcription and pass on the video, particularly if there are screen shots of any important charts or training aids. I feel that I am more likely to retain what I read, and if there is something that is unclear I can reread the passage easily.

I like the idea of transcriptions. I almost never watch a video tutorial. I prefer something I can read and the screenshots are about as visual a learning aid as I need. I think making sure the content is mixed is a good idea. I mean that way visitors can at least know what the post is about before deciding to watch the vid or not.

Another q How far "over the top" would you go to make a video?

I'm not quite sure what your definition of over the top could be. I have been thinking of making some slideshow videos of artwork on motorcycles, but the background music rights might be a problem. I have no intention of buying a $50,000 camera to make web videos. Somewhere recently I read that you could make the videos with a web cam, it is the soundtrack that is important.

There are a lot of sites online that give people royalty free music. I think some you just need to pay for the rights to use it, or similar. I can imagine that it could be hard to find the right type of music for motorcycle art though. lol I would imagine something like Steppen Wolf, Jethro Tull etc. would have been perfect. I always seem to associate the two with each other. I wouldn't either, there's a lot of other things I could do with that amount, web cams are cool though, some are really good when it comes to image quality.

The reason I asked is because I have seen a lot of "out of control" videos on youtube. Sometimes it seems like people just want their 30 seconds of fame regardless of what they have to do to get it. lol

I can understand that. I have been thinking about using a mix of content with a video. The content can help me get visitors, and the video can help with explanations better. I am in one of those niches where a visual explanation would be better so that visitors can see what I am talking about

In fact, hot selling Clickbank products are always they’re who put video in their landing pages. With video, you can tell something that hard to explain with just text. It’s more attractive and keep visitor to stay longer on your website. When it happens, Google will give more value to your site and indirectly make the rank increased up. In other words, the visitor increase is only indirect effect of placing video on your website.

This is what I have been thinking about. Our blog is not exactly easy to understand without having some basic knowledge about the system, so putting videos together to give a visual explanation seems more fitting somehow.

JR Carson on his e-book said that there are 3 types of reader, and one of them is people who like to watch video and view pictures instead to read text.
