    Bumps.. Bumps..

What are bumps? I believe this has something to do with forums.

In forum software the most recent thread with a post is shown at the top of the list. If an OP (original poster) feels that their thread has not gotten enough attention they will sometimes make a short, otherwise useless, post so that their thread is displayed first in the list again. Often this short post is just the word bump.

A sticky thread stays at the top of the page without new posts. A regular thread will step down each time there is a newer post in another regular thread.

That is a bit harder to answer. I think that it probably depends on the local practices on the particular forum, and maybe how busy the forum is.

In a way they are spurious posts, but not completely useless like a 'good post' or 'thanks for the share' type post that adds nothing to the quality of the post.

I would say that if the forum is busy and a sincere question has gone unanswered and fallen off the first page with few views that a 'bump' may be in order one time. If the question still goes unanwered or if there have been several views without comment it would probably be better to let it be. Thread titles can have an impact on both views and answers, so try to write an interesting title for your threads.

A mod or admin must apply the 'pin' (or glue) to make the post sticky. Most stickies are written by the admin staff, but occasionally a general post with exceptional content value may be made a sticky.

in many forums usually bums are not allowed. People use bumps to get the threads to the top of the forum category
