Directory Site - How can I make mine stand out or increase the traffic to it?

Recently created a web directory. Realized that I am one of about 100 million people with the same idea.

I know that I can make my look and function well, and even benefit my users in the near future.

Any suggestions on how to increase my traffic?

What a great domain name that you have choose! Nowadays there are thousands of directory exist on the net that have strange/odd name... but you choose domain name that are good for SEO purposes. Thanks for your inviting.. and about the traffic, you just need to make some backlinks and also send your link to directory under directory category...

    www (dot) addtodirectories (dot) com

Go ahead and submit all the links and articles you want...

    Thanks!
It has clean design which is good. Good domain as well.

My advice is to remove this requirement: "Reciprocal Link"
Your directory is still new and without any page rank. I doubt there will be many people who will put a reciprocal link (at least at this stage).

If you manage to get a good page rank you will be successful, since this is the most important thing people look for when submitting in directories. The links your directory gives should also be dofollow.

    Good luck!

Thank you guys, it seems there may be light at the end of the tunnel after all. The reason I left both the free link and the free reciprocal link was just in case someone was feeling generous I guess, they are both free, obviously it is more work to add my link, but if they have a directory, they might as well...

Everything is dofollow! I plan to actually put time into this directory and not waste other peoples time in the process.

Anymore suggestions would be awesome! I love this website.

In addition to that, i suggest your build more backlinks to your directory until your PR increase.. the higher PR the higher value of your website in the eye of google and also more visitor will submit their links.. you also can add feature links at lower price or according to PR level, usually higher PR means higher price

Well what you could do is write mini articles in the categories so your site has more content and is not just a link farm. Just an idea.

Having just links won't help much but as the above post says, content will help a lot!
