There are many benefits yes, and many web directories has high PR too. The problem is that free submissions take months to get approved. So as rajkumar says, better to spend some money

After Panda and Penguin Update, Directory Submission is no more effective technique to SEO. Focus on forums, blogs and social bookmarking sites those are better than directory.

I am not agree with rank. I don't thing directory have lost its value after Google's recent updates. Only we have to find out the place where we should submit our link. High page rank and quality links are always welcome.

Directory submission helps in building links. It actually brings quality back links, helps in increasing the link popularity and increasing your ranking in search engines. Relevant and business related directories are fruitful enough for the business submission rather than submitting it to general directories.

I feel there is nothing good about it.

if you get niche related directories where there is a use in terms of ranking.. but its very difficult to find niche related directories .. even if you find most of them are paid services..

I don't do this anymore. Seems not worth it anymore. Have had better result with bookmarking sites.

Use a software/service to quickly do directory submission don't waste too much time on it though!
