Ah the elusive DMOZ submission. Good luck!

If you follow the directions 100% you've got a 2% chance of getting in.

    Here are the steps:
    1) Click down to where you want to be listed. Under which category, go as deep as you can. The deeper you are, the better chance of being added.
    2) Click add url when you get there.

Make your description as similar to the other descriptions in that category.

DMOZ has less then 2% successful submission rate. I've had only 1 site ever indexed there in 15 years of internet marketing and that was before google even existed. I've tried many times over the years and never got approved. If there's a method out there - i havent found it yet...

The site must be decent, make sure it's about the same quality of links as the other sites listed. Then start sending emails from the directory you're in. Usually it's managed by someone (if not, you're in trouble). Then start working your way up the chain, looking for another reviewer, asking to have it reviewed. Sometimes you'll find someone to do it for you, but in reality it's pretty difficult.

I actually was looking at their site the other day and it's gotten pretty dated, before submitted links didn't work, but now... their own links don't work. I went to their search page, did a search and they didn't find anything. So they suggested about 10 different search engines to query to see if perhaps they had results. Over half of them didn't work. Mostly the url structure had changed at the search engine, so they just all led to broken pages!

Hmm actually I just went over to DMOZ again to see if I could find an example of how to contact an editor in a category and I couldn't find any. Maybe they removed that functionality.

However, 95% of the directories I went into, had a "Volunteer to edit this category." So I'm guessing they are seriously hurting for editors at this point.

I applied to be an editor for that reason and I had to do some work for them as the editors are meant to find sites as well as accepting declining submission..

They were very quick to get back to me to tell me that I would not fit in with them lol.... As I could not do it right haha

DMOZ is a waste of internet space these days! I can't imagine Google gives it much weight now.

See, no one can guarantee DMOZ submission, not even after getting $5000... Until and unless the person is DMOZ editor :P

Just read the guidelines carefully and identify the right category.

Since DMOZ is human edited directory, operated by volunteers. Which is why listing may take from few weeks to months and sometimes years.

Submit and forget, as long as you've selected the correct section to be listed and written a half decent description your half way there. I have read on the DMOZ resource zone forum it can take up to 9 years to get listed.

They must have a serious shortage of volunteers.
