try to have the list of your keywords first. then try to search that on google, you will find how many searches are there and how high is the competition.
then try wordtracker it gives you number og keyword searches both global and local.
I only using 3 tools for research keywords:
Google Adwords Tool External -> to find if certain keyword has enough local/global monthly searches or no
Google.com --> to find the competition level
Google Insight --> to find if the keyword still popular/in trend
I also checked my competitor Yahoo backlinks by using SEO Quake.
After doing all research by these tools, I can decide to go with that keyword/no
Test your keywords with adwords bevore you invest time and money in SEO for these words. This is the fastest and cheapest way to see what realy happens if the Site should be top for the Key in Google. Some Keywords sound good but when it comes to conversion they don't work. You should test them bevore.
you can have your own list of keywords and do the research manually. but you will be needing a tool to distinguish the number of competitions and the number of searches you have for that keywords.
I used to use a guy named Cyberzilla to purchase keywords but now I primarily use Brad Callen's Niche Finder. It really is an outstanding tool.
Best way to choose keywords is by looking at multiple factors –
1. Objective/Identity of your business
2. Relevance of the keywords under consideration with respect to identity and objective of your business
3. Demand/search volume of the keywords under consideration
4. Keywords targeted by your competitors
You can rely on Google Adwords to research on relevant and high search volume. But insights about the business will actually help you pick the best keywords.
Hi..
Thanks for sharing this information.
Personally, I'm lazy when it comes to keyword research. If I find something I want to promote I use addons in firefox like seoquake and find my competitor's website, analyze their keywords/meta tags/ meta description and from there take those and write my own content. Keywords update from time to time so keep up with your google analytics and see if there are any keywords that say "not provided". Do some keyword sniffing and see what it could be. You might find yourself a gold nugget that will separate you from everyone else!
I've had good result in searching competitors keyword (after searching in google keyword tool of course), if they are in 1st page and target that keyword there is a reason.
So people say to start with the offer and work your way backwards to find the relevant keywords. For easy ranking in organic search, finding the highest searched exact match keywords with lowest competition in SERPS. Starting with a bunch of longtail phrases with lower searches can be a good idea. Use G adwords tool, instant search suggestions and related keywords vertical in G search for all "family" related and LSI keywords.
