I have seen many replies / threads on this subject explaining on how to get popular with G+ and getting links. I am not good at this. can some one explain , What is an Hashtag and how this is created.

hashtags are used for searching, primarily on twitter, facebook and instagram. Tag an image or post with #bananas and if someone searches for the #bananas tag you will show up.

A hashtag is BASICALLY a link to a search query. By hashtaging your content you are added to that bucket of other content within that query.

Using hashtags is highly recommended on social media networks to make your posts more visible and eventually viral. You should do a research and see which hashtags are the most popular (searched for the most) and use them. However, you should only use those hashtags which are relevant to your post and don't overdo it. For example, if you put more than 3 hashtags on a post on Facebook, the visibility for that particular post will actually decrease. I didn't have the latter experience myself, I think I've read it somewhere. But I believed it.
