I have some experience with making money on facebook.
Short version: I wrote a real book in a niche - not a ebook! I went to facebook and joined many groups in my niche and i start a own group. I wrote some helpful things about my niche and when i got trust from the other members i promoted my book. This increases my sellings.
The people on Facebook who click on the adverts where segmented but were not looking for the product so the best thing to monetize is to use retargeting, that way they'll end up buying as they have interest and it's always showing up.

You can sell Facebook Fans, Subscribers.
Now people have started selling Facebook Pages, Groups having required number of fans or members.

I think, if you can create some facebook applications, you will be able to monetize them with ads. If you have a look at different facebook apps, you will see that they have got ads around them. Through this way only, you can monetize facebook. Otherwise you can get traffic and impression only from facebook which may help to increase your traffic and sales.

yes, you could make money on facebook by using facebook to target or create leads for your product, there is a lot of way you could earn money by using facebook
I personally either do CPA or use it promote affiliate products with the Facebook pic.
Many of my friends are making huge using Troll, funny pictures type fan pages. They are earning even 1k$ per day from adSense as they have many 500k plus fan pages. Its really amazing, i am also working on some pages but yet to earn money from them.
I also do funny pic sites. Its all about having a lot of pics and getting them out quick as possible. They can make you alot of money with ads and even with cpa offers,. I have made money both ways.
