Thread: It Looks Like Day Three of the Stompo Stampede

I just looked at one of my blogs and it looks like it is day 3 of what I am beginning to think of as the 'stompo stampede'. In the last two days I have deleted over 1,000 spam comments from my several blogs made using the user name stompo. This is a major blast with a short spun comment. There are a number of sites or pages being promoted with the blast and many proxies are being used. Last evening there were so many that Akismet had even missed a few. I moderate comments, so none were actually posted, but Akismet usually catches nearly all of this type of comment spam.

Has anyone else noticed the blast, or are my blogs being specifically targeted? One blog has collected over 200 of these each of the last two nights, and I have not yet checked it this evening (but I have confidence that the record will be maintained).

Interesting, when winter hits harder spammers don't go out, so they are bored and don't have much to do, I hope spring will come soon

(cleaned comments its a nice adfditional content for free ) or better captcha system like custom questions.

You must just not be on the right lists!!

Akismet has caught all but a very few, but I usually review the spam folder to see if there are any that I want to keep. When it gets up around 10 - 12 pages on some blogs I just hit the 'empty spam' button. Most spammers are aware enough to spin the user name and to use something they want to rank for in the slot. It seems like this guy is just trying to make a huge footprint so that it will be easier for Google to find him.

It appears that either my 'friend' gained some wisdom or found a different list to load in his tool. I did not have one spam comment that I saw under the user name of stompo across my blogs when I checked this evening.

There was one user name that did catch my eye, however. That was strony www, but that apparently means website in the Polish language.

I keep getting spam for a few well known games, and a site that removes snow... I had a lot yesterday, but I guess that was just the weekend load, because today was just the normal amount, but the usual customers.
