I use Avast free, but I am behind a hardware (Linksys router) and software firewall (Comodo), too.

    You Mac people are spoiled!

I use ESET Smart Security (I *think* it costs around $40 a year).

It works great for me. Lots of features, top notch protection. Definitely the best I have used to date.

I use Comodo internet security premium. This one is pretty good. Before I used NOD32, Kaspersky, AVG.

Also I use those online scanners time to time.

I started out using Avast. That did a big update which hung my computer, so I switched to AVG in annoyance. I stayed with AVG for several months, but it was too heavy on system resources so I tried out a free anti-virus that Microsoft puts out. That one had a spyware checker that I couldn't find out how to turn off and which used 100% of the CPU every few minutes. I uninstalled that POS and tried Avast again. By this time Avast had fixed a lot of the niggles I had with it and was very light on system resources, so I'll be staying with it.
