I use Montastic and they are not bad. Only 3 or 5 sites you can check in a free account but that's enough.

I have one site loaded at Internetseer. The free account checks once a day and sends a weekly report. Checking once a day leaves 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds unmonitored, but there is also a report of load time on each day that does give an indication of server health. They do have a paid service that checks frequently and, I think, sends an alert email in case of problems.

Free Montastic account let you check site uptime in every 13 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour , 6 hours and in 24 hours. But no other details. You get an email when your site is down and another email when it's up again.
