Thread: VPS Hosting - any advice??

It is time to move a few of my sites to VPS hosting. I use several CMSs and generate a lot of files and database content. I am nearing the limits of my present shared hosting plan. If anyone has advice about good or bad experiences with VPS hosting please post a reply. Thanks!

I have been doing some research and the best that I have found is this deal at Site Valley: Affordable Managed VPS solution by SiteValley.

Does anyone have experience with the company? Does the deal look good?

Do you have any experienced in Linux systems and server management ? I can recommend you a un-managed VPS provider if you do.

If you need a Managed VPS then go for KnownHost or WiredTree. I use KnownHost and it's great. Superb support and Fast servers for good price. Mine cost me like 35$ per month with (Cpanel + 2000 GB Bandwidth + 768 MB RAM + 40 GB Space + 2 IPs). This is with a Lifetime promo special promo code. (I can find a code for you if you need. Wiredtress has more features but their price it little too much like 50$ for same setup. Knowhost has a very good reputation and I have been with them for nearly an year without any problems at all. I only had to contact them once even that's for asking their recommendation about Apache module. Their support is friendly and fast.

Never go for those small VPS offers from companies never heard of it those sounds like too good to be true. Because those offer are not real. Either provider has no idea if they can service long run with those crazy offers or they are just lying. I had used these cheap stuff and learned it in hard way. Okey for static sites since you can just upload into another place but for CMS it could become nightmare !

Site Valley was a name that came up, among many, in a thread about managed VPS hosting on the Web Hosting Talk forum. They have been around since 2003. Knownhost was mentioned in the same thread, but I don't know if I looked at WiredTree, yet.

I am not ready for un-managed VPS at this point. The site or sites that I need to move are CMS based but they are not really money sites at this time. There is a bit to think about.

I haven't heard of Site Valley. You can do a search in WHT and see if there are any negative feedback. I don't know how they offer managed 512 RAM node for 14$. Cheapest Manage VPS I have right now cost me $20 and It's good but not something like what those like Knownhost or WiredTree offers. Support is friendly but slow and there are downtimes here and there.

Even if you have decide to buy from this Site Valley guys don't but anything less than 512 RAM if you want to run a control panel, Cpanel or free Kloxo.

I had looked a bit for feedback but planned more research and maybe talking to them. The current special is double ram so you get 1024 for that price. I looked at the order page and by the time you add cpanel and IP addresses the price is still good, but less unbelievably low. They offer a datacenter in Atlanta, a good South-eastern data hub city.

Managed VPS with 1024 RAM ? Not that's near impossible unless they have at least 25+ nodes in a box with some kind of RAM manipulation software. I have one Un-managed VPS with 1024 RAM which cost me around 12$. I don't know how the can run a support team for the price this provider mentioned offer with those prices.

Better check for more reviews and how long they have been in market.
