    Web hosting horror stories ?

Have you ever had some terrible web hosting experience ? I think I can remember 2 horror stories my own. First one was couple of years ago i bought hosing from a guy at NP. He scammed everyone can ran off with money. We should have known this going to happen when a new guys coming to the forum offering a deal which too good to be true.

Second time it as at DP. Bought hosting from another guy and he couldn't keep his server up almost all the time. It was hilarious to read his topic because he was scream everyone who complained in his topic and was yelling he will yell at everyone that he was going to sue. It was fun to read that topic alone.

I had one recently, Bought a hosting account at Dp, I was looking for shared but he advised to get reseller with just 2$ extra. I bough it.

Then after a week hi server went down and it remained down for almost 7 days coming up for 1-2 daily, when I asked for refund they say there is no refund policy for reseller account, I was like then why you advised me to take reseller so that you don;t have to refund money.

Next was more horrible, they changed the server and they want don;t even bothered to transfer our data, this guy says that you have to transfer your data yourself.

That was enough then one more incident happened last week suddenly my site went down , on raising ticket I came to know that they changed the server again without even notifying, moreover my account does not exist on new server, I lost all my website data because they forgot to inform me...

I bet you can have anything horrible more than this, that yo lost your website because host did not informed you about server change.

That's horrible. Something like that happened to me too. Provider sold his service to someone else and didn't even bother to inform users. New guy simply wiped to service started using it for something his own. When we ask this previous owner all he could say was oh sorry I forgot tell everyone.

Fortunately as my own rule I don't keep dynamic sites like forums or blogs in these cheap hosting account. So the damage was nearly zero. When people buy hosting from forum members better check members trade history and his WTC topics and see how conduct his business.

In my point of view, better to go for big names in hosting like godaddy or hostgator or some else, may be a bit expensive but what you will get, mental satisfaction and you know your site is safe.

oooo, let me tell you about hosting horror stories.
I had few, but major horror story is by far with this company:
quillhost.com AVOID THEM AT ALL COST!!!

Few years ago I had one site which I need a VPS for, so I found one by DP, the guy selling it was OK and he has some great reviews also.
So I setup account and everything was OK until something is broken or not working, support usually needs few hours to respond, then if you reply back you need to wait another few hours, etc...,
but it was OK performing VPS and it was somehow OK except for the support...
Then he sold his business to some new guy and the problems began, VPS was down for few hours almost 3-5 days a week, and support is reacting after 24 hours and if you reply back then you need to wait another 24-48 hours just to get some response, by that time your VPS is not working offocourse.
At that time my site on that server was making about 100-200 $ per day and this was not acceptable for me, I was loosing huge money every few days, but they didn't bother at all, they where very rude and eventually after few more incidents I left from them.

Maybe I will share another one with other hosting company, bigger company.
At first they where very unprofessional and their support treating me like an idiot,
but last couple of months they are started to actually listen what I'm telling them and they actually moved me from one very slow nod/server to another,
but still sometimes I run into some very rude and stupid support to whom you can't explain one single thing and I think that they don't even bother to understand.
I will see if situation with them becomes nasty then I will give you my full report.

Also have some others "minor" horror stories with other companies...

luckily I don't have any web hosting horror stories. As someone else said above, its better to stick with popular web hosting service providers like godaddy, dreamhost and hostgator. I heard some stories that sites hacked because of hosting plans they used

If you search you can find horror stories about even big companies like Godaddy and Hostgator.

Sometime just unpleasant things happen because of stupid support staff who think they know everything or too lazy to do anything. Also when ownership changes usually it ends up with lot of problems.

This was finally happened to me and it was a big name. Hostgator.com.............. I have setup a baby account with them. Pyament was given to them and they provided me every information about my hosting. Everything was going well and i was setting up my domain which i just purchased from another company, whois.com. All of sudden, i was unable to login and i got an email that your account is frozen and we need some verification. I asked them verification of what? and customer support said that they need this, that to verify my identily. They are asking me to send my utility bills, credit card information , my Passport and My recent photos. i have asked them I am not osama and you are not CIA so whats wrong but they were on the same tone. I just say bullshit to them and cancel my order. Now i am waiting for money back as they said that they will return my money within 48 hours.

And let me know one thing, they said that they dont pick verification randomly, rather they are now verifying every new customer as there are a lot of fraud in hosting industry. I don know why but i think, i will avoid Host gator now and future for their stupid questions and verification process.

Wow that's strange. If Paypal or another payment processor ask this it's fine but a Hosting provider ? Did you ask why they suddenly needed those things since they don't it in their TOS and home page ?

I know sometimes they do this in High end VPS and dedicated servers. When they suspicious if you are the real owner of server. That's fine because if someone comes to support and demand login details of an account telling he is the owner they need to make sure. Email verification is not enough since mails can get hacked.

but in my case, i have just purchased shared hosting baby plan and they have started this. I have asked them let me know what are the reasons but they said that they can't ell on chat and to get more detail information either i have to call them( what the hell!) or i have to contact on skype( Why?). Even thin i have to provide all above documents. I cancel my order simply wit hostgator.com and then one of my friend refer me to another host provider Affordable Web Hosting | Professional & Reliable Hosting Services by Zyma. They are good and really affordable. i have setup my account with them in just 2,3 hours.

Yeah That sounds crazy. First time I heard something like that about Hostgator shared hosting. I have seen bad reviews about their VPS service but not about shared hosting.

I use Godaddy shared hosting. Seldom I contact their support because I can usually do better than their hosting support staff.
