Thread: Designing a Facebook fan page (custom)

I need help. lol literally before I throw my computers out of the windows. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to create a custom fan page? I am busy branding our social networks, and have just finished with twitter, and now I need to get started on facebook. I have looked online, and have been given two options, and neither work, and I am not sure if using the developer is the right way to go either.

When I look for the settings used in tutorials, I cannot find them. I am the admin on the page, but can't seem to get to the "admin page" everyone keeps telling me to work on.

All advice would be appreciated, but no offers to do it for me please I need to know ow to do it so I can design what needs to be designed myself so that I know how to do it.

what do you mean by 'custom fan page' ? i kind of confuse... as far as i concern, the custom properties can be found via the option of the fan page itself, or do you mean you wanna custom the fan page like you need to do coding twist (for example put a flash content) in that page

don't want it to look like a generic facebook fan page. Look at Redbull and coke. I want to do something similar.

Why don't you use application which automatically gives you custom design template for facebook fan page. Last time I have used Shopbuddy which displays products from my website on facebok fan page by just setting the RSS feeds from the products. You can search for the similar application which let you design custom service page. Most of time I have observed the charm lies in the use of banners. You can higher graphic designer for designing banners especially for facebook as per the size and specification.

Yes, there are applications available that allow you to design and custom your facebook fan page look and feel. You dont need to be a coder for that, you can do all that through mouse clicks. You can add graphics, change color schemes and page layout of your choice. As you might have experienced some facebook fan pages look unusually attractive. You just have to pay for these applications.

Thanks, I will look into these apps and see what I can come up with. I don't want to hire a designer when I am already one myself. lol. I just want to know the ins and outs so I can get it all finished.

Absolutely no problem. My pleasure.

We use a similar application XMLA or something like that for our page. It allows you to display HTML pages as the front page.

I found one way. Using open Graph on FB. I am busy playing with it now, so hold thumbs. Hope I don't break facebook. lol

It's confusing, its not easy, I did mention confusing right? It seems to be the best way to do it, but its going to take a bit of research (and coffee). I'm not giving up though. Facebook's still standing for now. lol

Much like a new WP theme, you need to find your way around and then you will be able to slap it into shape.

I'm going to slap it alright. I finally got a theme to work with me, not another battle. lol its a good thing I like a good fight.

To update, it seems I may have the solution to the problem, not its just a matter of coding and designing. I am using a canvas app in facebook, that allows me to create an app and use it as a "mini site" which is then linked to the fan page. Seems like the best option atm.

this is the way I did it

I have the canvas files on the server, I just need to tweak it a little here and there, but I should get it done soon, then I can show you what it looks like in the review forum. I think the only real problems I am going to have is the SDK coding... Sometimes the things they ask you when you set up an app is more confusing than actually coding the thing.
