I think both are important, but according to my experience, I prefer to do submit social bookmarking. and I use the IMT tools. This makes my bookmarking work easier.

I believe directory submission have more value than bookmarking submission since bookmarking website has been a place for people to spam. Even so, use both to build your backlink.

In general, all free link sources are more or less spammed and there are as many crappy unmoderated directories as social bookmarking sites. It all depends on the list of sites you submit to, but in general it needs more than those link sources to rank for competitive terms. They are great to build some solid base to start with, but that's it.

both have there own values ,if you chose good pr directories and good sites =for bookmarking of high pr you should get benefit

with directory submission, blog commenting will do the join work to make backlinks according with professionalism.

I agree with franbarries, most of the directories will not allow you to submit your deep links, but with social bookmakrs you can easily get backlinks for your deep URLS too.
what is good: both are good and have its own value and points you can not avoid any one of them.

Yeah, spend your time to hunt backlink from these two source are far better than wasting time discussing it....

Both have a good depends on how you can work if you use good directories then it is good and if you are doing social book marking with do follow links than it is good

I use Social Bookmarking to get indexed my newly build pages . Directory can benefit you if you submit your index page & gets a high pr . but Quality always matter in SEO .

Social bookmarking is better, you will get traffic and backlinks from this.

It depends on the exact site you are linking from. You should start to make links from high quality websites - both from directories like Dmoz and also from social bookmarking sites. They should be also DOFOLLOW websites.

Sorry if this thread is old (I wasnt the one who bumped this thread) But the more options the better. Both are great, but you should do as many as possible. But for arguments sake, social bookmarking is better and easier option, since you dont get accepted quickly from directories so often.

PS. Ranking in DMOZ isnt that important, trust me, yea it gives some help. But it takes years for your site to get listed in the bigger categories, and traffic isnt good at all. I kept checking everyday for a month for my site to get listed it was a waste of time, dont stress it, submit it and leave it.

If you have to choose, take social bookmarks. As far as I know directories have no more the authority they had years ago.

I agree with you, Both are good for SEO. Directory submissions nice for increase PR and traffic. But Social bookmarking is fast way to build Traffic. Directory submission and social bookmarking are strategies work for to promote or optimization our site. And Directory submission is good for backlinks.

Directory submission is comparatively better than social book marking.Actually it depends on the situation too.

directory submission is a long term strategy, this is because in order to be accepted to directories, it takes time, depend on the owner of that directory, so directory submission is good for homepage links in spite of webpage link that you want to target
