In general, all the backlinks that are related to your niche and are coming from reputed sites, contribute in your SEO.

Back links are beneficial when they:
have higher page rank,
related to your niche,
not coming from link farm,
latest cached by google..
Besides, you can calculate your back links in google as: link:domain name.
