Posting On Old Forums / Blogs, Can it damage your ranking?

A SEO guru told me to search on the most important keywords in Google and submit my website ony every forum / blog / ... I

come across (the first 5000 results). In these results there are many blogs and forums dating from 2003-2008. Do you think

Google wont find it a problem? Will it hurt my rankings rather then improving it?

    Thank you.

I don't know. That is an interesting strategy.

I wouldn't that it would hurt. My question is if it would help enough to justify the time. Has anyone else heard of this technique?

I don't think it would hurt. Only problem can be those old forums/blogs are dead then those might be heavily spammed. This might decrease the backlink value.

Forum posting is a HUGE time pit. Most don't pay off. But I must say I've had a few posts where I've been able to drop a link that have driven steady traffic for YEARS.

Google seems to like TIRED OLD forum content. I'm surprised to see how many old posts from 2007, 2008 seem to show up on PAGE ONE of results. So much for the theory that the internet is all about Hot, Trendy, Now, Newsy, Socially real-time -- cuz clearly Goog still likes to rank stuff that was said THREE YEARS ago very highly. Weird.

This is quite true happening to me all the time...
And this is another reason why not to trust everything what Google is saying. They are like general media, trying to influence/implement thought patterns in your mind.
They talking this or that is not working anymore, but in reality they are putting the word out only because they don't want you to do it because they are having hard time dealing with it like detecting real duplicate content or unnatural link building, etc..
Don't get me wrong some things they can auto detect and they are doing their best do do so, but people will always try to work their ways around anything and finally make things harder for google to auto-detect/filter what is wrong and what is right...
So they don't want to say, oh, yes this is working, but please don't do it because we have hard time to track this or that, so our search engine results will not be that accurate(natural not influenced and user friendly) as we hope so...
I hope you understand what I'm trying to say here.

    No They won't

basically link building is done here if you post your links in this thread. You should remember that, to monitor the forums ranking and authority whether is it fine or not.

Time is not important but thing to see is the number of replies or number of links in the post. Try to get backlinks in the posts containing less than 100 replies or less than 100 links.
