traffic spike could lead to crash

"a huge surge in traffic to your site (yay!) can often cause your site to crash (boo!)."

This is an extract of an article I found at Official Google Webmaster Central Blog: Preparing your site for a traffic spike

I had sudden improvement in few keywords in which all 7 keywords came from between 10-20 to top 5. I was getting traffic (non-paid) of 250/month but this month I got traffic of 700 something. I think such a traffic is understandable and Google won't treat it as illegal traffic. But this one is a moderate spike.
