Thread: Should I post articles on my own site - or elsewhere, and link back to my site?

I'm very new to the world of SEO, so please forgive me if my question seems a bit lame.

From an SEO perspective, is it better for my website if: 1. I post an article on the blog on my own website; or 2. post an article on a more prominent website and link back to my site?

Both?? In SEO there is no 'one size fits all' answer. It will depend on the situation.

In most cases you need quality unique content on your site and you need quality backlinks to your content to get to the top of the SERPs. The right mix could depend on the type of site and the competition in the niche as well as other variables. What works for one site may not work for another. You will need to try both approaches to see what works best for your site.

Get the full content on your site, then spin the content or cut it into small bits (Make sure there is still quality) and post it on another website.

It is better for you to focus all of your SEO results on one site ,so put all your unique posts on one site and try to optimize it good For SEO.

i think you can post article on both places, but content should be unique.

Writing articles to our website blog is a best thing but it needs some time to become popular.
If you maintain good quality and information in your articles, within few months it will get good response and pageviews. So my advice for you is 'do not stop article writing, do it on a continuous basis, after sometime you can get best search results'.

2. spin same article and submit it many article submission sites. so you get more backlinks.

you do depend on more on social book marking websites. so more traffic. co good Alexa rank.

Do not try altime with SEO. you can buy 5000 backlinks with 50 dollars from here or Fiverr.com.
focus on Content and release it social websites. thats it. don't submit total Content only teaser.

Good question. I think you should post full articles on your site with internal links to other articles on your site using specific keywords.
Then post shorter articles on other sites linking to your full article. If you know how to use spintax you can use the great wiki tool on this site and generate a massive amount of links to your main article very simply.

You can post on your own site and post your site keywords anywhere else and link back to your website. It will give you backlink and also promote your site and keywords.

Both are best way to get ranking in search engine. if you publish article in own site, content should original, high quality for website ranking. generate high quality backlink for you website to submit article in article submission sites.

I recommend if the content is of high quality and unique then it should be placed on own website/blog. And if it is a content which is written just SEO purposes then you look for the other websites publishing options and try to get a link back from them. But use them carefully as it can harm the website if done in over-optimized way.

Just focus on your site first, if you have a nice traffic then can go to other backlink efforts.

As you said, your new to S E O. If your website is a new website so to get popularity to your website you should write the articles and post them in the sites which have high PR and then that link should be shared in your block. Then after 3 months you can write directly in your own blog.

You should own make post for your own site that must be unique. Unique mean it should not be matched with any one.

Write long article for your website and write short articles with links to your site and post them on other websites. Try to use wikipedia . Try to get backlinks from wikipedia. They are really important

Post those articles on your site first before you do anything. Make sure that your site gets full ownership as the original creator of it. Get some links to those articles from social networks (social signals) slowly over time from facebook, twitter, tweets, retweets, likes +1' and social bookmarks.

Then after about a month, post bite sized chunks of those articles with unique content as well linking back to it too. This to Google then looks like someone has read your article is quoting part of it and linking to the original site or article.

You can do guest blogging so try to find guest posting sites in your niche. And post them on your social networking pages/groups and onto web 2.0 sites the best way as well.

That way you make the most of your articles on your site.

Of course you can always post those articles in full else where. Google does not punish you for having duplicate content on your site that is on another site. Its only when you have dupe content on your site in 2 different places.

Its just that Google only gives content creation ownership to the original found and indexed content (your sites articles) and will rank the other version of it somewhere underneath in the SERPs depending on where the site that its on is ranking.

Sometimes, if this is on a Web 2.0 blog like Blogger or WordPress, LiveJournal etc then these can rank higher than some authority sites in that niche. That's why these are sought after and you want to create a Web 2.0 presence for your business.

Like Mike said, if you want your website to get the most benefit, you should expect to post the information on your website first. Perhaps you can provide another good piece of content elsewhere, but I would always say that if you are making something new, your own website takes precedence.
