Thread: Help with new business

I've just lost my job due to cut backs, I thought I'd setup my own IT support company supporting a niche market (I don't really want to go into too many details on an open forum!).

As part of my IT service I want to provide sales leads to my customers, so I've setup a small site that basically asks visitors to leave their contact info and in return they get a useful e-document.

I need to get this site ranked in google ASAP, I was hoping that IMTalk forum member could advise me on what needs to be done and where money should be spent. I don't have much money to throw at this so any useful guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I'd be more than happy to give more details about the niche market and my site in a private massage.

You could use the services offered here by members, as well as the IMT tools themselves. Nemanja has had some truly amazing results with the tools, and we have all benefited from it. There is a wealth of information around the forum as well. You need only to take a look. To try fit it all in here would leave you with a novel. Read around a bit, if you get stuck, don't hesitate to ask or send a pm. I will also try help where I can.

The most important thing is coming up with a good SEO strategy. I would do some research and then come up with your SEO strategy and then outsource it all. You can literally hire people full time for $250 per month to do your SEO overseas. Get a few of those people and that's tons of great backlinks etc that will bring in traffic

Yes SEO is the most important since you can't do anything without traffic. But getting backlinks has to be done slowly because It doesn't look good when new site gets a huge amount of backlinks in short period of time.

also Your site has to be very good for visitors to leave their email address. I meant their real e-mail address. If you just offer a free e-book they will give you their spam email. So they can get the book and then forget about the whole thing. Also you can do things like yahoo answering for to quick but quality traffic.

SEO is a good option to start with I would say. SEO is definitely NOT the most important thing for your business. I've mentioned it before, that people are too hung up on SEO, while you can get very good results and sales through many other channels. Traffic from SEO efforts is usually non-targeted, because people who use search engines are mostly looking for information. Look at your own behaviour on google...if you have to pay for it you'll click the small "x" in the top right corner rather quickly.

Especially in ICT (I've been in ICT for 12 years of which the last 3 with my own IT consultancy business) you're going to have to approach potential customers directly with email or even phone call. You're one of too many offering IT services and potential customers won't be impressed with a website in the first place. For this case I would definitely approach ezine publishers on the subject and spend 25 or 50 bucks on a regular ad that gets sent to possibly hundreds or thousands of potential customers. SEO marketing would perhaps attract some customers, but I wouldn't depend on it.

However, to have a website as a business owner is a good thing. It shows professionality and credibility for existing or just acquired customers when you refer them to your site.

I would say, you are at right place, as you started participating in forums, you would learn yourself a lot of things about how to do your seo work, if you are participating in forums.

Well, what I would say that just focus on only one website and try to do quality work, for example if you are doing link building try find those quality sites which are in your niche, link to all the sites...
