I have already suggest on of the member of this forum. Guest Posting is great way to promote your blog. If you want to get popularity with you blog, then Guest Posting is most important. You will get in touched with some popular bloggers with this method.
Create some funny or catchy videos, upload it to the youtube and other video sharing sites, put your url in profile and description of the video, and you will see some traffic for sure.
Make great/controversial article and submit your story to digg and other social websites, if it goes viral your server will melt.
If you can spend money, you can try PPC, but I would rather invest that money to backlinks and have free organic traffic.
These tips are for quick traffic, for long run you need organic traffic and that needs hard work or money for outsourcing.
For long term one of the best methods is to create as many as possible unique content, hire users to write for you or find some other ways to get good content.
Another method is to get some quality links on high traffic sites.
Create some kind of service / information which other site owners want to place on theirs sites.
Work hard constantly to make your site bigger and bigger.
Do lots of SEO on your site, like subitting to social networking sites, directory submission, writing not only quality content but unique and original content, these are the few SEO points for ling term traffic, if you implement it in proper manner.. Your website design also matters for traffic, it should be simple but cachy, unique content as said above, a deep keyword research which helps to choose the favourite topic on internet for collecting large amount of traffic..

After reading the above comments.I feel i have done right thing in joining this forum.These are some great tips to get quality traffic,but also it is necessary that the traffic which comes to your site finds your site useful,i mean it should have lots of good content and easy interface to browse through content.And as said above promoting your site and content is also required to get good traffic.
I would suggest you to use Social networking smartly. Like facebook, twitter etcetera. This can be really useful and can get you very good traffic. But it will not help the building of backlinks though!
I think you should use facebook, twitter , digg and stumble. Believe you will get thousands of traffic daily. But remember before using it you to get a huge nos of friends in these social networking sites.

If your going to use PPC, remember there are plenty of other platforms instead of just Adwords, you have Bing, Yahoo, 2nd tier companies etc. If you can figure out how to make something that can go viral for your site (video), you can get tons of traffic but one of the trickiest things to do is figuring out "how/what" to do for viral marketing.

If you do it to all adresses... every week with a different text strategy... people will visit your link and they will produce much siteimpressions cause they're searching for the uploaded pics.. hahaha
emailing marketing is a good strategy. But has to do with very carefully. Shouldn't use it for AdSense sites and better not use it for Amazon sites too because Amazon terminate your account if they get spam complains. Most of affiliate programs do it.

try to do SEO for organic traffic and target all major search engine in a same time rather then google only. After that if you have good budget try your luck with Google Adwords ---- it can provide you real traffic with good business also. Well, I have to be honest but I find this a very nasty way and unethical way of advertising. Besides, I don't know how strict they exactly are in Germany, but I wouldn't dare doing this in my own country (the Netherlands). If only one individual would report this kind of spam to the local ''Federal Communications Commision" you end up being screwed with a €10 000+ fine. I even read about some €300 000 fines. Then there's always paid traffic: PPC (not as effective as most think), solo ads (check warriorforum joint venture section), if you have a product find JV partners (I've been putting a lot of time in acquiring partners and affiliates who promote for me), etc..

If you want to get more traffic to your website then according to me you must be daily work with social networking sites like twitter, google plus, digg, delicious etc. Social bookmarking also use for increase traffic to your website.
