Look into cgi programming if your on Linux or ASP.NET using c++ with the .net extensions if your on Windows.

Yes they are the same.

But make sure you download the one for C++. There are express editions for Visual Basic.Net and C# too.

Microsoft Visual C++ Express is free.

It has a wonderful IDE and the compiler is a lot more standards compliant than it used to be.

I do it manually, just insert a link-tag in the head part of the html:

Go for javascript.
VBscript is only viable in Internet Explorer and if you want to script Windows. (But javascript works there too.)

Remember that a response.redirect tells the browser to go look somewhere else. Server.transfer tells the server to look somewhere else.
