Depends on what you want to target. Shorter keywords generally have more competition but target a larger audience, shorter keywords have less competition but a smaller audience.

I always get the majority of my traffic from Google, Bing seems to have a really wierd ranking algorithm because it never sends any traffic.

You can ping your links to get them indexed faster. Linklicious has a free service you can try.

I use google myself, but I know plenty of people that use bing and yahoo.

The best way would be to create unique content on your site, and then create backlinks to them. Please note that PR wont update until next panda update.

I use MS, had good results with it.

I use google keyword tool to get search volume, and use majesticseo and market samurai to analyze competition.

Nice, people should really stop spamming new sites. Wait at least one year before going heavy on the backlinks.
