Thread: Are member's email addresses safe?

Hi,

When I joined this site I created a special email address that I have only used here.

I just got a spam sent to that email address and I am thinking either you are doing some marketing to raise money and so it's not really spam since I gave you the email address.

Or someone has made a copy of your member list and is using it to send spam.

This might be the work of spammer but not of IMT.

I talked to Nemanja via PM and I am satisfied that IMTALK was not behind the spam, so it has been reported to clickbank due to the affiliate link in the message.

As I explained to Nemanja, the email address I use here on the forum is unique and not used anywhere else. The chances that someone "guessed" it are very, very low, since it was the "forum domain name" [at] my domain name. I consider the matter closed at this point. Thank you!

I have gotten clickbank related emails for a long time, and I think they recently left me alone because they have stopped sending emails now for more than a month. it's not really related here, because it was sent to my own private email, but I know how it feels to get those kind of spam mails. I'm glad its all sorted out and that everything is ok.

Nope I didn't ever get any mail as this from IM's platform. I think my email is really safe and I'm not worried.

Spammers are not guessing the emails
I think that they are scraping and also some are generating email lists with some email generator using randomly domains name and common stuff, happened to me few times also.
When emails are generated for spam, them they are putted together from various bits and peaces.
like admin and yourdomain.com, like other sites and yourdomian.com, like common names and yourdomains.com and so on,
yourdomain.com can be any other free email service or any domain name they can find...

It's true, I mean its the only way i can think of that they got hold of mine. What tipped me off was that I am not part of clickbank. Seeing those emails in my inbox sent the alarm bells off and had them reported. It's frustrating to know that we are not safe 100% of the time. How much more "virtual armor" are we going to have to hide behind before we are really safe?
