First I want to say to all members sorry for the inconvenience caused.
It seems that some angry member or some hater or whoever is again on the mission,
so last few days we are under some kind of DDoS attack.
I'm working to resolve this issue and I hope that it will be resolved soon,
in the meanwhile you can experience some down times here at IMTalk.
Will notify about this soon as I get some more info.

and also one trusted and experienced unix/linux sys admin will help me with this one and some other linux security things
Cool. :) At least there is something you can do about it. Which is the main thing. These guys are probably being childish because they were banned. Or jealous that IMT is more popular than their own forums.

scriptkiddies + ddos from localhost + proxy - probably oldest but still working method.
Your restrictions for cookies session probably does the trick with it :) meaby cache for some querries will help too.

It is extremely fortunate that you/the admin has some knowledge in this area, can see you're being attacked, can write code to protect against it and more. A lot of people wouldn't realize they have fallen victim to this kind of attack before it is too late. I hope this situation is soon resolved.
in the last 4 months most internet marketing forums are had to deal with doss attacks. i now there are more with this problem hope you find a good solution.

Like strony said...kiddies. The same kind of behaviour you see on game forums...they get critisized or banned and go berserk. Not even thinking about the fact they were wrong themselves in the first place. I guess we can't stop this kind of youngsters from trying, but good that you have ideas to prevent it Nemanja... You might have to explain it to me at some point... :D

@stronywwwlublin, yes I made/coded some script base protection, but only good firewall and some server based stuff can be of real help and of course hardware at first place.
@Aaron, I'm not that knowledgeable in sysadmin area of linux, I can find my way for certain stuff, but for this type of situations I'm using only experts in this field, currently waiting for one to contact me...
@bunny, from day one everything is backup on daily level and stored on this and other server as well ;)
@econtinue, the best idea is hardware solution at your hosting or at least tight server security like firewalls and some other measures, so you need to find good and trustworthy linux sysadmin
This is still going on, I'm taking some actions as you know,
but the real help is on the way and I think we will solve this once and for good after security job is done.

A DDOS won't damage content. It eats up your system resources and bandwidth in very large scale depending on the bugger who doing. Another unfortunate thing is it's very very hard to counter a DDoS attack.Quote:

Even a script won't halt an attack like this. A php script would be useless and you ll need to use a shell script and even that would eat up resources same as the attack it self. And Even that might not work coz DDos won't even wait for that shell script to be executed.
