Its not easy. I've been playing with PS for years and I am still learning. Honestly. I am a hobby digital artist, so getting to know the software was important to me. I mean I started by playing around with styles, effects and such, and then went to the web. I started reading tutorials, testing them out, and then adding my own style to them after "mastering" that specific technique. From one tutorial though, it unlocked a love of compositing that still runs strong today for me. Manipulating metal into any shape I want to, and my love of fantasy art. Not too long after that I got a Photoshop certification (which isn't really an accomplishment) and have carried on along the same path. Reading tutorials, trying them out and then adjusting what I learned to suit my own style of art.

Nope, not this one, but remember the metal rose I had on a little while back? I made that one and a few robotic animals.

Definitely. I remember staring at the puppet warp not too long ago feeling like a complete newbie. now though, I can alter complete tree branches, just because I played around with the tool. I guess it works that way with all the tools in PS. Even the 3D had me gobsmacked at one time. but now, I work with apps like milkshape. When you start learning photoshop, its the beginning of a long journey, and depending on the effort you put into it, its a rewarding one. Oh yes, forgot to mention, there are also tons of books out there that teach you the ins, outs and secrets of Photoshop, but there are only two I would recommend. Photoshop for right brainers, and Photoshop compositing secrets. You won't find better resources than those two books IMHO. One feeds creativity, and the other one gives you more of the tools you need to create what your creativity wants to create

I had enough lessons on photoshop and almost all apps in multimedia as a part of my graduation program and now am finding hardly anytime to open photoshop except for logo's and banner stuff for my personal friends business, btw have a go at matte painting lessons from gnomon team. they are just awesome

Maybe I don't have much time now either, but still open it every now and then, just to keep familiar with the program. I've started sketching anime and that keeps me occupied atm I might paint the sketches in PS at some point, lol maybe.

If you want to get started with Photoshop. Go to Lynda.com

No books will replace those videos.

A friend of mine who is knowledgeable in Photoshop learned from watching tutorials online. Some of the sites that she went to were psd.tutsplus.com and photoshopessentials.com

Despite the number of years of Photoshop experience, my friend is continuously learning to improve her skills.
