My personal experience opinion: If You looking for free shop engine I recooemend:

• quickcart

• my favourites cms! pure php flat file cms - easy as hell, good seo optymalisation.. and many more You will love it!

• prestashop
  PrestaShop Free Open-Source e-Commerce Software for Web 2.0
• I looking some shop enginewith many free temlpates - prestashop are not "light" and easy to use as quickcart but fulfills his role

Other free engines:

VirtueMart - addition for joomla! - higly DONT reccomend
osCommerce - nice... if You have own VPS serwer - oscommerce its really hostkiller
ZenCart - I dont use them without localhost. just dont like usability in them.
Ubercart - addition for durpal - nice but i use only for one website
Magneto - uh. without pure install - sometimes its worst than virtuemart.

And ofcourse I test many other "test" "0.1v" engines some of them "live"only in surceforget.com, and hotscripts.com.

So what is Your opinion about best shop cms engine?

I prefer in germany the xt:Commerce Shop, its a fork from osCommerce. I work with this shopsystem since 2005 and i have many knowledge about the structur and can programm addons in PHP for it.

Yes it is many forks of osCommerce I dont have experience with this port. What can You tell about MySql optimisation? how big db have Your shop?

osCommerce has been around for years. I think this is a good option since so many people knows it and its all free. Also usually you get it along with Cpanel. Also I have heard nice things about Magento and Prestashop.

I have no shop at my self, i build them for customers and make addons. Some customers have databases with 50 MB others have less or more. It depends on the quantity of articles and text.

Do you think $20 is to much or was the application not good, or why do you say: not good?

$20 for working cms? it is joke? I know many addons/plugins above this price. But one time I buy easy cms in this price with central panel for making a lots of microsites in many servers - they works great but I will newer usethem to make clients website or personal blog

@proseocontent 50 MB its quasi big DB.. but not in oscommerce Can You tell me how much product is in the database? Do You optymise DB with some plugins or smth?

I have used OSCommerce for a while for an ebook shop and was very content with it. There's also a more developed version...just can't remember the name. I think it's a paid OSCommerce based shopping cart script.
