Wordpress: Change permalinks and your Blog get crashed???

Damn I made a big mistake!!!

I changed my permalinks last days and my ranking goes down!

All my Facebook Like counts and share counts are gone... all bookmarks are gone!

    I change my permanlinks from:

    domain/year/month/postname

    to

    domain/postname

cause I would be better for searchengines...

Now my Ranking is going better cause I made to all a 301 redict thing at Google webmaster tools.

If you have a wordpress blog... never change the permalinks!!!

You can always change permalinks back to orig. state, or if you won't or can't do that write 301 redirect rules from old permalinks to new permalinks in .htaccess file.

I did it... but when you have more than 200 links to change... its a hard work..

You must think about permalinks initially. Now its too late. I recommend to use %category%/%postname%/ permalink. Changing permalinks in middle point means you are leaving everything like backlinks, traffic, etc.

yea, changing permalinks is one of the main thing that you can do to loose your search engine ranks, I use topicname_post id format.

Your htaccess redirects should solve your issue - did you write a general rule to redirect all posts to the new permlink structure?

As a rule i set permalinks to /%postname%/ as part of every initial WP setup. This way if you need a change later (for any reason) you can append it to the end of the string.

    Good luck
