The site looks good and I think it is a great idea. That said, any popups including FB like button are an irritation to me.

On first visit the screen was covered by a jquiry 'lightbox' type Facebook like button that had to be closed out to view the site. I think there is a plugin that does that.

This seems to only happen on a first visit to the site. I saw it one time in FF and had to visit in IE to catch the screenshot:

This would seem to me to be much more effective as an exit popup or a second visit popup. How would I know that I might want to share it before I had seen the content on the site??
Ah thanks winkor! Yes that is the social popup plugin I am using. It sets a cookie so that it only shows one time. I've changed the time that it takes to show to a longer duration of 30 seconds now.
Chances are if you've been there for 30 seconds then you are reading something on it and might find it useful and share it.
That little plugin has actually got me hundreds of votes/shares/likes on my social pages in the past. But it just needs tweaking to get it working at optimum. I think show after 30 seconds should be okay.
It auto closes after 10 seconds or you can click Close or click anywhere in the page and it will close.
