Was forum profile link spamming a stupid thing to do?

Hey guys,

A few weeks ago I started a same website, enthousiastic as I was I also bought a fiverr deal with 250 forum profile links and 2750 backlinks behind them. Three weeks later I still can't be found on the keywords I'm targetting at, I just can't be found at all not even at page 50. Yet I did put quite some work in it, I have another website in the same niche which has a good ranking, while I haven't put as much work in it as this one.

I know it's not smart to do this kind of backlinking with a brand new website, but am I screwed with this forever, or will it become better in time?

Page 50? Heres a tip if your not doing it - go to google search settings and change results to 100 per page instead of just 10.

Back to your problem - Sounds like you got kicked in the nuts for spamming a bit, you should bounce back in a few weeks. I've done it before and when I did finally come back I bounced back to 16th which was far better than it was before.

Still indexed? index:yoursite.com I would imagine so. It's just google has decided to kick you out of the natural search pages for the time being.

I think it goes to show with your other site that getting your website everywhere in a big go isn't of that great value, compared to the gradule few links a day stuff. Because now the problem will be ok you got your name everywhere in 1 day but now its just got quiet...

That's my opinion anyway doesn't mean I'm right!

How fast did you get those links? If you build that much backlinks in a very short period of time(1 or 2 days), it can be looked at as unnatural by the search engines. Especially if the links are for a brand new site like you say they're for. I have also heard from another source, forum profiles that lack content related to your links aren't valued too much by Google. They would be a lot more valuable with relevant content which makes perfect sense. But I don't know if that was a part of the service you used.

You also need to take a look where the signatures were used. Links that tend to be in bad neighborhoods tend to perform badly or get zapped by google. The amount of links made per day is also a good thing to take a look at. Have a look at the Google Webmaster tools. They have a guideline about which linking schemes the "allow" and which they stop dead in their tracks.

Thanks for the replies Luckily, the site is still indexed, the backlinks were all made in one day and are of awful quality. One forum has 4 post but 600 000 members, lol.

But good to hear that there's still some hope left.

What other techniques have you been using besides links in signatures.

Well... Let me think:

Comments, although not spamming and do follow.
Articles, some related sites, some unrelated, all unique.
Backlink on one of my related sites (pr 3)
Bought one backlink from a pr4 dmoz enlisted site. Although four weeks after I bought him, I noticed the site had dissapeard from Google. I'm very sure it was listed on Google when i bought it. I think this might be an important reason for the sudden drop....

It could be. Is there a way you can check your backlinks? Maybe see where they are (neighborhood), see if the sites they're on are still there, or if these sites have lost PR etc.

I know whats your problem is....

your service made too much profiles in a short time which can beeing very unnatural for google...

then they made a big mistake: they created 2nd tier backlinks to get all these profiles indexed faster in google... to get a higher ranking...
but when all these profiles was indexed by google trought 2nd tier backlinks... google found out that this way was not natual...

all you can do is to build some backlinks from high pr trusted sites... and maybe some bookmarks... to get you out of sandbox..
maybe its google dance... pe patient and wait some weeks... but you must still building some backlinks..

A useful warning to others I think - there are so many of these cheap services you can buy, where you get 1000 of 'backlinks' from forum profiles etc...Better to go for quality over quantity.
