I done directory submissions and it helped me rank higher on search engines!!! we are currently working on a software to submit to directories articles directories, search engines and more.. Directory submission alone is not going to do it it's a combination of different SEO techniques including some black hat(fake his is my favorite) methods and believe it or not reputable companies do it too.

I've had really good results using a web-based directory submitter at gtsee.com - for $6.95 it'll submit to 1000+ directories, a good number of which are instant approval. You can monitor and verify the submission process in REAL-TIME, and often VERIFY the link immediately as it works thru the list 0-9..., A-Z... Usually generates about 250-400 confirmation emails (most of which you can just ignore.)

The Instant Approvals start showing up in back-link counts after about a week. Other's dribble in as they get reviewed and approved. Unfortunately, you can't SPIN the title or description at gtsee - so chose a concise Top Money Keyword Phrase wisely for the title. This isn't ideal - but for less than $7 via PayPal and 3 minutes of setup time you can get the Directory part of building a diverse backlink profile nailed quickly - then move on. You could then use the IMT Directory Submitter here to spin other Keywords and Descriptions and pretty much cover all your bases.

The bottom line: Directories are still valuable, they tend to yield far, far more PERMANENT links than many Social Bookmarking efforts - which often get flushed out of existence.

gtsee.com? look promising for me..the lists of directory they have are collected from all over the net or come from their network? and how about the rate of approval? 100% guarantee approved by the directory owner?

I don't spend much time to submit directories these days. I prefer profile sites which i can optimize to get more link juice. I do use submission tools here and there sometimes. Every link counts. IMtalk directory submission tool is pretty great.

maybe its good for back links, but traffic I get from directories is nearly 0.

True I don't remember I see any directories in search results for keywords i want. When there is Google no one practically bother about web directories expect webmasters who want to get back links.

The reason why some directories have a quite good Alexa Rank(means more traffic) even though still new is because hundred of people each day come to the directories is not looking for the info but for submitting their website

exactly! How often do you find a directly link in search result ? I don't remember when did I see one for last time.

Yes i agree that Directory Submission is an old link building tactic but it still provide good back links. Directory Submission creates one way back links for our web site. It is very effective if done manually on high pr web directories.
The benefits of Directory Submission are:
1. Back links
2. Search Engine Indexing
3. Anchor Text
4. Frequent visits by spiders

Great, before read your post i have leave directories submissions because my SEO friends say that is an ordinary thing and not good for results but now i will start once again directories submissions. And i think miss PattiSpencer is wrong any auto work is not good in seo field you should do every work manually in SEO.

I think PattiSpencer don't know what she is talking about.

I never used Directory Submission a lot before, only i do with IMTalk.org Directory Submitter Tool. However i will revisit my approach and as Namanja guided about directory submission, will try it ans see the results.

Presently i think profile submissions and bookmarking is best to get good SERP results.
