How long time passes before you get backlinks from Squidoo and hubpages?

Hello all.

I have created a lens and a hub some time ago (lens long time ago) but I still can not find any backlinks in google from these sites. The method I use is to put my domain name in quotes so Google search the exact frase.

Is this the wrong way to check for backlinks?

Also should I do some thing to the lens/hub to get the link? I used a tool called Ping Kashing (demo version) to submit the links to social bookmarking and rss feeds. (not 100% sure how many)
